Fear Itself

Athenae and I rarely post about the same thing on the same day. It's that time again. The whole Bowe Bergdahl incident seems to be the apogee of Obama Derangement Syndrome. The GOP reaction is OTT, incoherent, and sadly predictable. Once again, they're confused as to whether the President is a power mad dictator or a weakling. You really can't have it both ways but making sense has never been high on the neo-cons agenda. Fear mongering is and I wish the stupid mongerfuckers would monger something else… Here's the deal. It's apparently strong and resolute when Ronald Reagan and … Continue reading Fear Itself

Hagel Nagila

Nagila means rejoice in Hebrew but the neo-cons and Vulcans are not rejoicing over Chuck Hagel’s being nominated as Secretary of Defense. They dislike the former Nebraska Senator because he dislikes war and isn’t a slavish worshipper of Bibi Netanyahu and his war-mongering right wing Israeli government. As far as I’m concerned those are excellent reasons to support the Hagel nomination: if Kristol and Bolton hate it, I like it. On a more serious note, I like the nomination because the former enlisted man appears ready to go to the Pentagon and start cutting the budget, which is imperative after … Continue reading Hagel Nagila

All War is a Crime

Jude commented on this post: The government and the rebels have been indiscriminately bombing and shelling cities; conventional explosives are WAY more deadly than air-dispersed chemical agents. Yet we still have this 1916-era mentality about how poison gas is somehow just so ungentlemanly that it deserves a special level of outrage. That’s bullshit. Artillery barrages and bombs do terrible, terrible things to human bodies. When you’re suffering and/or dying, you don’t give a shit whether hot steel, concussion trauma, napalm burns, or poison gas did the trick. Which is really what my issue with any bombing is about. It’s not … Continue reading All War is a Crime

It’s Always Time to Talk About Shit That Doesn’t Matter

I keep going back to this, from the brilliant Cleolinda: (Here’s my thought on that in a nutshell: Violent movies and videogames do not make people violent. Violent people are attracted to violent media. Of course, so are many of the rest of us, just for different reasons. Conrad comes slithering out of his hole to opine that this Rupert Murdoch chap is a bit of a douche: When the extent of his skullduggery finally oozed out, sluggish and filthy, including the details of the British government’s dotage on him, this summer, Murdoch’s old possum routine didn’t play as convincingly as it had in its many previous auditions, when he purported to be contrite over the shortcomings of errant employees. Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Freeperati – Newt Gingrich Death Watch edition

Well, folks – other than the never-ending Freepathon, Jim (I’m all in for Newt Gingrich) Rob has been MIA for weeks now.

Maybe he’s too depressed after this:

Kibitzer, be a pal and grab some more popcorn please? Southern Beale – more wine? We’ll just watch this one from outside the iso chamber, I think.

To: FlingWingFlyer

Why do we give them 19 delegates? I mean, I can understand throwing them a bone and giving them 6, but 19 is just plain ridiculous when the GOP candidate can’t break 20% in anawesome year.

I live in the People’s Republic of Maryland. Hit the polling place after work at about 1830 –the place was like a tomb.

Considering the average age of the GOP electorate, what did you expect? Mardi Gras?

I cast my vote, and I don’t mind telling you that I voted for the Newtster.

And I don’t mind telling yo uthat you threw your vote away. And you dimrods don’t have a lot of them to spare.

When it came to the Senatorial candidates I didn’t even recognize any of the names except two – one a nutcase named John Kimble – I voted against him and for Mr. Douglas. I understand Romney has projected winner in the presidential contest.

As I have said before on this forum, I will not vote for that RINO sonofabitch in the general election!

We are doomed.
You were doomed the moment you embraced The Southern Strategy as a political tool. It’s just taking longer for you to die off than I had originally thought. But you’re getting there.
Witness the death of the grand old party and the birth of a new moderate to liberal republican party vs a left-wing radical democrat party.
America will never rebound in my lifetime and this is the legacy we are leaving our children and grandchildren. Memories of a once great nation being brought to it’s knees.I don’t know which feeling is stronger…sadness or anger.

By virtue of these Romney wins (and probable eventual Republican nomination), the GOP is giving Obama his second term on a silver platter. Everyone I talk to sees it the same way. Romney is NOT anyone’s first choice and people are disillusioned with the apparent John McCaining of conservatives for the second time in a row. This is republican party suicide and everyone can see it except the elites who are forcing this candidate down our throats.

You’d rather have Santorum shoved down your throats? Yuck.

May God help America out of this potential disaster.

It appears like the electorate is starting to take a stand and make a solid choice to defeat Obama. They almost unanimously said that it is now more important to get behind a candidate soon, and to not delay or hinder the nomination.

Why do I get the feeling that’s what you wanted all along. So what’s your real name, Rove?

Good. Gives them something to do during the General besides vote.

To: MamaDearest

It’s high time for a third party, but the GOP talking heads in the news media will do their darndest to keep party-line Republicans in line with their usual talking points and scare tactics.

“Let’s change the GOP from within!”

Riiight. It’s not like the establishment holds the reins of power or anything.

And 17% (at best) of the electorate will magically unelect/unseat all of them and march proudly on to victory!

I love this place.

“But a third party will never win!”

Romney will never win, either, but we’re supposed to vote for him.

“But a third party will split the vote!”

Good! It’s time for the Republicans to go the way of the Whigs.

And time for “conservatives” to go the way of the Know-nothings.

What did caving to the establishment get us in ‘08?

Pandering to the screwball right via putting a simpleton up for Veep who had to be advised of the difference between WWI and WWII is now “caving to the establishment”?? Fancy that.

What did it get us in ‘12? Will 2016 be any different?

She happens to be right, after all: After playing a news clip describing the video, Loesch said, “I’d drop trou and do it too. That’s me, though. I want a million cool points for these guys.” She wondered why there was any kind of scandal surrounding the incident. “C’mon people, this is a war,” she said. “Do I have a problem with that as a citizen of the United States? Only Talking Sense

Holy crap, someone in Washington is talking sense about Afghanistan albeit off the record and to the British press: The White House is revising itsAfghanistan strategy to embrace the idea of negotiating with senior members of theTaliban through third parties – a policy to which it had previously been lukewarm. Negotiating with the Taliban has long been advocated by Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, and the British and Pakistani governments, but resisted by Washington. The Guardian has learned that while the American government is still officially resistant to the idea of talks with Taliban leaders, behind the scenes a shift … Continue reading Only Talking Sense

Ambivalent

Obama’s speech hasn’t sent me racing to the barricades to either oppose or support his policy. The best thing about the speech was its tone: somber and sober. Nobody does the two S’s as well as the President. The worst thing about the speech was the troop increase: I doubt that it will work. Foreign powers have been trying to secure the rural areas of Afghanistan for centuries and there are always rebels in the mountains shooting at them. It’s a combination of geography and culture: Afghanistan remains a largely illiterate country dominated by tribes and war lords. This is … Continue reading Ambivalent
