Sunday Morning Video: The Theologians

My friendMichael Homan likes to make a short film every summer. He has struck again. He is, in fact, a bonda fide academic bible dude so this subject is natural fodder for his quirky pastime. I’m not even embarrassed to admit that I know everyone in the flick. I should be but I’m not. Here’s Homan’s description ofThe Theologians: The Theologians, Drs. Michael Homan (Alpha) and Mark Gstohl (Omega), drive around New Orleans in a white Catalina verifying miracles. In this premiere episode (entitled Gumbo Madonna), the Cherub sells out some Babylonian Tiamat-worshipping Satanists for a trinity of indulgences. The … Continue reading Sunday Morning Video: The Theologians

Weekend Question Thread: Rudeness

Inspired by responses to the creeper thread below: What’s the rudest thing someone’s ever said to you? I’ve had my share of bullying and teasing and mean things said to me, but I think the flat-out rudest things always come in the form of pointless advice. Once I was running a silent auction table at an event and a woman walked by and sniffed over the offerings (which, by the way, included tickets to downtown Chicago attractions and signed baseball bats and other fancy things) and said to me, “Well, this was a stupid idea.” I just stood there gaping … Continue reading Weekend Question Thread: Rudeness

Seven

I crept out of my bedroom early this morning and poked my head into my child’s room. She was snoring and muttering in her sleep, same as always. The floor of her room was devoid of most of the toys that usually made walking through a minefield a safer proposition than putting her to bed. The room was relatively clean because family and friends will be descending upon our home this weekend for her birthday parties (Yes, plural. Yes, we are nuts.). Today, she turns seven. I wonder how that is possible. Three days after my wife walked out of … Continue reading Seven

On Not Being Creepy

Basically, this boils down to TAKE THE HINT: 10. Someone doesn’t want you around? Go away. Here are some subtle hints: When you come by they don’t make eye contact with you. When they are in a group the group contracts or turns away from you. If you interject in the conversation people avoid following up on what you’ve said. One of the friends of the person you are interested in interposes themselves between you and that person. And so on. When stuff like that happens, guess what? You’re not wanted. When that happens, here’s what you do: Go away. … Continue reading On Not Being Creepy

Power of the State

Tell me again how this is all about freedom, because nothing says freedom to me like the state being able to force you to bear a child against your will: The Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, the governing body that regulates the practice of medicine in the state, stripped the medical license of a woman who refused to force a mentally-ill 10 year old to give birth. As Robin Marty reports, Dr. Ann Neuhaus became the target of domestic terror group Operation Rescue after her colleague, Dr. George Tiller, was murdered. Neuhaus assisted Tiller by providing second opinions for … Continue reading Power of the State

Can’t Imagine Why

Nobody believes the news anymore. WELL GODDAMN IT’S SO DIFFICULT. I mean, every other story is about how both sides do it, and even when they don’t, they do, and who can tell what the truth is? Various fact-checkers say various things. You can’t expect anybody to speak with any kind of authority anymore. Let’s check what’s trending online! Let’s go to the truth-o-meter! Let’s outsource our content to the Phillipines! Let’s perpetuate the lie that traditional media is unprofitable and doomed! Let’s talk endlessly about how our customers are dumbasses who don’t appreciate us! And then let’s do it … Continue reading Can’t Imagine Why

Offer Only Good For Today! 10 Percent Off! Mention This Post!

President Obama, on Paul Ryan’s Medicare “plan:” “My plan reduces the cost of Medicare by cracking down on fraud and waste and subsidies to insurance companies,” Obama said. “Their plan makes seniors pay more so they can give another tax cut to millionaires and billionaires.” Obama directed his attacks at Ryan’s original Medicare plan, not the more vague plan now espoused by the Romney-Ryan ticket that would keep some traditional Medicare options. Ryan’s plan would eliminate Medicare’s current structure in favor of vouchers for private insurance. “Because the voucher would not keep up with costs, the plan offered by Gov. … Continue reading Offer Only Good For Today! 10 Percent Off! Sunday Morning Video: Houdini and Spiritualism

Adrastos trivia time: I am obsessed with Harry Houdini, the greatest magician of all time and one of the founders of modern show biz. Here’s a clip from a documentary about spiritualism discussing Houdini’s efforts to debunk that bunkum. Why? Because it was bunk, not to be confused with Bunk Moreland: Whilst looking for a Houdini video, I learned that Aaron Sorkin is writing the book for a musical about the handcuff king due to open on Broadway next year: Continue reading Sunday Morning Video: Houdini and Spiritualism

Adrastos Shrugged

The wingnuts have been waving their dicks around since the 2 R ticket was born last weekend. They’re thrilled about Eddie Munster providing some so called ideas and intellectual heft to the ticket. The MSM trills over Ryan’s courageous ideas, which in CW-speak means unpopular and perhaps even toxic. The rest of the country, like me, shrugged. If you’re not a political junkie, Paul Ryan is an obscure Congressman from cheese country with an Irish name and a blonde wife. He’s yet another in a long line of fake men of the people. He’s from a well connected and well … Continue reading Adrastos Shrugged

APM: Desperate For Things To Suck

Listen to this, because just reading the transcript of the interview Kai Ryssdal conducts with Michael Grunwald, you really don’t get a sense of just how disconcerted Ryssdal is by the idea that Republicans might be totally wrong about the stimulus being a horrible socialism death bill. After all, Grunwald’s saying things like this: Grunwald:It was called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Short-term recovery was a very important part of it — there was state aid for that, tax cuts, and a lot of aid to victims of the Great Recession. But there was also this long-term reinvestment part … Continue reading APM: Desperate For Things To Suck

What You Don’t Get to Talk About

What it’s like for you as a gay guy, unless you are one: From the first episode, this otherwise stellar season keeps letting us down when it comes to its own blindness to privilege. Tara’s empowerment is always knuckled under by Pam in the end; Newlin’s sexuality continues to be a pretty ugly punchline to a five-year joke. But you have to know how lucky you are when you can look at any unequal situation and claim to see a level playing field, as long as you’re the one on top: Tara “just happens” to be black, Newlin and Russell … Continue reading What You Don’t Get to Talk About

Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Freeperati – Gruesome Grab-bag III edition

Morning folks – let’s suit up and have at it, shall we?

Let’s start with one left over from last week’s “Unpleasant Surprises” category –

It’s Christie Critters!

Christie: ‘Bigots’ attacking me on radical Islam
WND ^ | Aug 8, 2012 | WND – Family Security Matters

(Family Security Matters) New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, often described as a “rock star” in the Republican Party, has finally addressed the criticism of his courtship of Islamists. On July 24, Christie held an Iftar dinner at the Governor’s Mansion, attended by Imam Mohammad Qatanani, a Hamas-linked cleric whose deportation is sought by the Department of Homeland Security. Christie reiterated his support for Qatanani and made the case to his Muslim audience that he is their ally by ridiculing the “bigots” attacking him.

Words fail me. Anyone doubt Christie is an arrogant non- Conservative Republican.

You forgot “Homosexualist RINO”.

Bigot:
: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially: one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

This definition of a bigot certainly describes the Muslim religion, especially towards their intolerance (including murder) of Christians and women.

Why do anti-Conservatives feel free to label anyone who dislikes the Muslim intolerance to Christians and women as a bigot?

Nah – no bigotry here.

To: kevcol

Christie has jumped the shark. He is exactly the type of pseudo-conservative that does more harm than good. By claiming to be a conservative while espousing liberal views, he gives the media a big stick with which to beat real conservatives. In this case, the media don’t even have to read between the lines. Christie is deliberately accusing law abiding, patriotic Americans as bigots in order to curry favour with a minority group he sees as a potential source of votes. I hope he loses his bid for re-election.

In other words, you’re wishing a RAT on us instead of a RINO? If a real conservative is available in the primary, that’s who I’ll give my vote. But never a RAT in the general.

The General??
