Bonus “Obsession” – Wiki takes a leak edition

Hi, everyone – It’s free-for-all day at First Draft, where we contributors are freed from our normal schedules to post whatever whenever.

So, for a change, I’d like to post – a Free Republic thread!

Stand by for – Hey Rocky! Watch me pull a rabbit out of my asshole!!

Damn.  They pulled the thread!

SR 1326 – WikiLeaks Final Warning to Crooked Hillary Clinton (Hillary drop out!!!)

This thread has been pulled.

Pulled on 11/07/2016 7:00:38 AM PST by Admin Moderator, reason:Hoax OP request

Well, to sum up, it was a tweet supposedly from Wikileaks that said “Drop out or we’ll destroy your life”.

.

.wikileaking

There was the usual “we’re saved” from the Freeper Tinfoil Hat contingent, which was quickly countered by the “Yeah? Just like all of the OTHER times you destroyed Hillary?” and the “too little, too late” crowd. Then the “you’ve been hoaxed” posts started coming in and the Freepers had a massive sad.

Oh well. I haz a sad, too. That’ll teach me to not copy the entire thread instead of just the URL.

Oops! The mods missed this thread. I has a happee again!

“read more” for the particulars…

Let’s hear it from people who can’t take the Clinton/Trump debate any more. I turned it off after 26 minutes.

This whole thing is such a farce. Really, Hillary Clinton has “solutions” for people out of work? SHE’S A SOCIALIST! Any “plan” she has is for MORE GOVERNMENT! Why can’t Trump come out and say that?

Clinton ad ties Trump to KKK, white supremacists

A video released Thursday by Hillary Clinton’s campaign makes the case that Donald Trump is the candidate of racists, white supremacists and neo-Nazis.

“The reason a lot of Klan members like Donald Trump is because a lot of what he believes, we believe in,” a robed man identified as the Imperial Wizard of the Rebel Brigade Knights of the Ku Klux Klan says at the top of the video, followed by images of a Confederate flag fluttering in the wind, Trump waving after a speech, and a man performing a Hitler salute at what appears to be a Trump rally.

Byron York: Asking for black votes, a very different Donald Trump

How many times have Donald Trump’s supporters and critics debated whether he will pivot to a larger, more presidential candidacy? Too many to count. So put aside any talk of pivoting — the fact is, Trump delivered a focused, powerful, and disciplined speech Tuesday night in West Bend, Wisconsin, about 45 minutes north of Milwaukee. Trump focused largely on problems that disproportionately afflict black Americans, arguing that his proposals on crime, immigration, trade, jobs, education, and other issues will improve African-American lives more than Hillary Clinton’s.

Trump began by declaring, “We’re at a decisive moment in this election,” which few would deny, given Trump’s perilous position in the polls. Last week he laid out a jobs plan, Trump said, and on Monday he outlined a plan to defeat radical Islamic terrorism. Now, he came to discuss “how to make our communities safe again.”

Calling the recent riots in Milwaukee “an assault on the right of all citizens to live in security and live in peace,” Trump won applause with the declaration that “Law and order must be restored.”

“The main victims of these riots are law-abiding African-American citizens living in these neighborhoods,” Trump continued. “It’s their jobs, it’s their homes, it’s their schools and communities which will suffer the most as a result. There’s no compassion in tolerating lawless conduct for anyone.”Trump charged that Clinton and the Obama administration have pushed a “totally false” narrative of widespread police abuse across the United States. “The problem in our poorest communities is not that there are too many police,” Trump argued. “The problem is that there are not enough police.”

“Those peddling the narrative of cops as a racist force in our society — a narrative supported with a nod by my opponent — share directly in the responsibility…

Scarborough calls on GOP to cut ties with Trump

July 29, 2016 | Eddie Scarry

Posted on ‎7‎/‎29‎/‎2016‎ ‎7‎:‎44‎:‎15‎ ‎PM by kevcol

Scarborough said Friday on “Morning Joe” that Donald Trump has become too toxic for the GOP’s congressional candidates this year.

“The center cannot hold when you have the speaker of the House [Paul Ryan] calling the Republican nominee a racist but saying he’s still endorsing the nominee,” he said. “It is so bizarre on its face that you have people chuckling in the background.”

Scarborough referenced the often tense relationship Ryan has had with Trump on foreign and domestic policy issues as well as the tone of the celebrity businessman’s campaign.

No, I do not believe Trump’s choice will be Gov. Pence of Indiana. Nor Newt, nor Christie — not even a man. Yes, I do believe the proposed VP will be a woman.

I suspect that Trump’s VP running mate will be ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Why? Well, she is a natural born citizen, a real conservative, and she is ferocious contra liberals/progressives. In addition, she isn’t on the list of speakers for the Cleveland Convention and she has been silent of late. She has had lots of experience in dealing with those demons from Hell (the MSM) and her nomination will literally terrify the GOPee boys club.

Trey Gowdy: Benghazi report will be out before conventions
MSNBC ^ | 20 May 2016 | Matthew Kitchen

Posted on ‎5‎/‎20‎/‎2016‎ ‎6‎:‎54‎:‎45‎ ‎PM by mandaladon

It’s been nearly four years since a September 11, 2012, raid on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, left four U.S. citizens dead, including an ambassador, and more than two years since the House of Representatives formed a special committee to investigate the attack. The House’s report on the events is coming soon – very soon.

It just might not be the whole report.

In an interview with Chuck Todd on “MTP Daily” Friday, committee chair Rep. Trey Gowdy, a Republican from South Carolina, said he plans to release the much sought-after draft in June.

“We’re going to get the report out – it will be in the next month,” Gowdy said, “and then I’ll let the reader know: This is what we’re missing, these are the agencies that haven’t produced it to us, and if witnesses come forward after the publication of our report, I’ll let the readers know that.”

Gowdy admitted that for “personal and professional reasons,” he would have rather the report come out last summer, but said he agreed with Todd that the committee owes it to voters to release it before the Republican and Democratic national conventions this summer, when the parties will meet to declare presidential tickets and shore up current and future agendas.

The delay, Gowdy said, was due to his committee’s lack of access to necessary documents and witnesses relevant to the investigation.

Democrats instead see the delay as a strategic maneuver to discredit Hillary Clinton, secretary of state at the time of the attacks, who is seen by Republicans “as the official who should ultimately be held responsible for the failures in Benghazi,” according to the Washington Post. Clinton was considered the strongest contender for the presidential nomination when the committee was originally formed in 2014

**********

Gowdy said Friday the committee’s report will focus on three questions: “Why were we there, and whether or not the facility was sufficiently secure. What happened during the pendency of the attacks? And whether or not the American people were leveled with in the aftermath.”
……………..Time for Hillary to come clean…

Donald Trump corrected reports from the media suggesting that he actually wanted a government database for all Muslim Americans to be registered in order to stop terrorism.

“I didn’t suggest a database , a reporter did”, he wrote on Twitter moments ago. “We must defeat Islamic terrorism and have surveillance, including a watch list, to protect America.”

The media spent most of the day reacting to Trump’s positive reaction to a question posed by reporters as to whether he supported a plan to register American Muslims.

In an interview, Donald Trump refused to rule out requiring all Muslims to carry special religious identification, or to rule out warrantless searches of their homes and places of worship. Said Trump, “We’re going to have to do things that we never did before. We’re going to have to do certain things that were frankly unthinkable a year ago.” Many recall, with horror, how Jews were forced to wear special religious identification in Nazi Germany—a yellow star of David. In the U.S., my own family, and over a hundred thousand other Japanese Americans, were tagged like mere pieces of luggage, with no charges, with no trial, with no due process, before they shipped us off to prison camps.
Mr. Trump, unto my last dying breath, I shall oppose this madness. I shall continue to speak out, whether on social media or from our stage in Allegiance on Bway, against the dangers of racial or religious profiling and its dehumanizing effect. Yours is the first step toward the destruction of all we hold dear, and to that I and all good people must say, “Never again, never again, never, never, never again.”

The only possible complaint you might have, would be if you would admit or confirm that it was in your own detainment camp that you were first introduced to the homosexual practice of sucking d–k. If you were coerced into being a peter puffer, you might even today, have a claim against the U.S. government. But as for this 21st century threat of Islamofascism from ISIS and their ideological brethren, you DO realize don’t you, that if they did manage to take over our Nation and institute sharia law, that YOU and your sexual ilk would be among the first ones to be decapitated in the name of ‘allah’, have you thought about that?

WHAT? Trump Says Ben Carson is Sort of Like a Child Molester!
Truth Revolt ^ | 11/12/15 | Caleb Howe

Posted on ‎11‎/‎12‎/‎2015‎ ‎8‎:‎29‎:‎36‎ ‎PM by markomalley

On CNN today, Donald Trump had another moment that is sure to haunt news and social media for days, when he made a comparison between Dr. Ben Carson and child molesters:

He said he’s pathological, somebody said he’s got pathological disease, other people said he said in the book, I haven’t seen it but I know it’s in the book that he’s got a pathological temper or temperament. That’s a big problem because you don’t cure that. That’s like, you know, I could say, they say you don’t cure, as an example, child molester. You don’t cure these people. You don’t cure a child molester. There’s no cure for it. Pathological, there’s no cure for that.

Trump added “I’m not saying anything, I’m not saying anything other than pathological is a very serious disease,” but he was arguably well past the point of no return by then. Trump supporter Jeffrey Lord was on later to discuss the comment and said the Trump just “reached out for something that he thought was pathological.”

Yes, well .. reach better, guy. When a CNBC moderator made a comic book comparison with Trump, the Donald and his fans were outraged. Imagine if that moderator had said this about Trump.

The option they are giving us is that either Trump is too dumb to know comparing pediatric brain surgeon Dr. Carson to a child molester would be outrageous and go viral, or he knew that’s exactly what would happen and maliciously made the comparison. That’s what we’re left with. Dumb or malicious.

Unless you want to chose both.

Carson on the defensive over claims of past violence, pyramids
Politico ^ | 11/5/15 | NICK GASS

Ben Carson was put on the defensive on Thursday, with reporters pressing him about a series of reports that have sprung up questioning the factual accuracy of his past statements.

As Carson has gained in the polls, so has media scrutiny of the 64-year-old retired pediatric neurosurgeon and Republican presidential candidate, whose past and present statements have drawn no shortage of curiosity and interest.

On Thursday, during a stop on his book tour, Carson was pressed on everything from a report that questioned past claims of his physical violence toward others, an interview in which he appeared to struggle with the complexities of Cuban immigration policy in South Florida, and a rediscovered past speech in which he expressed his belief that the Great Pyramids of Giza were constructed by the biblical figure Joseph to store grain, not pharoahs’ tombs.

A CNN reporter in particular tried to pry more details out of Carson after the network published a report titled “A tale of two Carsons” in which it could not corroborate the candidate’s past claims in his books that he had acted violently in his childhood and adolescence toward his family and others – claims that are part of Carson’s narrative of personal redemption.

Asked to be more specific about when the incidents occurred, Carson listed them in detail. “One of the ones where I threw a rock and broke someone’s glasses, that occurred when I was maybe about 7 or 8, the stabbing, attempted stabbing incident occurred when I was 13 or 14, the – what’s another incident? Give me another one,” Carson asked a scrum of media on CNN in Miami during a book signing tour. “Trying to hit my mom in the head with a hammer? That was around the same time as the stabbing incident.”

Freedom Caucus Majority Backs Paul Ryan for House Speaker NY Times ^ | 10-21-15 | DAVID M. HERSZENHORN and EMMARIE HUETTEMAN Posted on 10/21/2015, 10:53:26 PM by afraidfortherepublic

A strong majority of anti-establishment conservatives in the House Freedom Caucus voted on Wednesday night to support Representative Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin for House speaker, assuring that he will have the votes to secure the post next week and averting a leadership crisis for Republicans.

Mr. Ryan indicated that he was prepared to seize the gavel and try to bring unity to his party, which has been riven over how House leaders exert authority over members. That fight had become so bitter that it forced the resignation of Speaker John A. Boehner and derailed the candidacy of the majority leader, Representative Kevin McCarthy, to replace him.

“I’m grateful for the support of a supermajority of the House Freedom Caucus,” Mr. Ryan said in a statement, referring to the two-thirds vote he received.

The apparent coalescing of support behind Mr. Ryan, 45, comes at a critical moment for Congress, with votes expected to begin as soon as next week over raising the government’s borrowing authority, the first of several pressing fiscal matters.

Pelosi Intrudes Into Wayne’s World

by Wayne Simmons

As I reflect back over the 27 years I spent hunting terrorists and those supporting them on virtually every continent in the world, I can’t help but wonder how my case officer would react today if he was alive to watch the Speaker of the House of the Congress of the United States attack and attempt to dismantle the CIA, the single most important intelligence agency in the world.

In 1975, I watched the Church Committee decimate the CIA’s human intelligence — “humint” — capabilities. As a result, for over 25 years the U.S. was subjected to brutal, deadly attacks by Islamic terrorists at our bases and embassies around the world and on the high seas.  This did not seem to alarm anyone other than those of us with the CIA and FBI until the Islamic terrorists drove jets into the World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001. Only then did Congress want to know why the CIA and other U.S. intelligence agencies did not or could not foresee the attack that killed almost 3,000 people.

Nancy Pelosi, who I suggested was a “pathological liar” on the Fox News Channel 4 months ago, told reporters in May that she had not been informed that waterboarding was used against terrorism suspects (though she finally acknowledged she had been briefed in at least 2003).

That was, of course, despite the fact that the CIA compiled, the DNI released, and HUMAN EVENTS broke the story of the memo that showed Pelosi had been briefed on September 4, 2002 which “enhanced interrogation techniques” — which we know included waterboarding — had been used on Abu Zubaydeh.

It is exhausting just trying to keep up with Pelosi’s stories

Simmons is accused of falsely claiming that he worked as an “outside paramilitary special operations officer” for the CIA from 1973 to 2000. On Fox, this was often shortened to “former CIA operative.” He was also indicted for using that false claim to gain government security clearances and an assignment as a defense contractor, where he advised senior military personnel overseas…If convicted, he could face up to 35 years in prison…Fox’s web site lists dozens of appearances and quotes, usually labeling him a former CIA “operative,” “analyst” or “officer.”…The U.S. Attorney’s Office said that along with the CIA-related fraud, “the indictment also alleges that Simmons defrauded an individual victim out of approximately $125,000 in connection with a bogus real estate investment.”

Breaking: John Boehner has agreed to stay on as Speaker

Having Talked to several senior aides on Capitol Hill (along with Chris Stirewalt and his sources on the Hill tied to the leadership) here is the picture that is beginning to form.

Speaker John Boehner has agreed to stay on as Speaker–not just until the Caucus nominates someone –but, until that person can confirm 218 votes on the House floor (needed to take the Speaker’s gavel). Short of that – Boehner will stay on for the rest of this Congress and steer legislation that is pending.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you – a Free Republic FIRST!

Ahmed Mohamed — who makes his own radios and repairs his own go-kart — hoped to impress his teachers when he brought a homemade clock to MacArthur High on Monday.

Instead, the school phoned police about Ahmed’s circuit-stuffed pencil case.

So the 14-year-old missed the student council meeting and took a trip in handcuffs to juvenile detention. His clock now sits in an evidence room. Police say they may yet charge him with making a hoax bomb — though they acknowledge he told everyone who would listen that it’s a clock.

In the meantime, Ahmed’s been suspended, his father is upset and the Council on American-Islamic Relations is once again eyeing claims of Islamophobia in Irving.

Former Ku Klux Klan Leader David Duke Throws Support Behind Donald Trump
The Wrap ^ | August 25, 2015 | Itay Hod

Posted on ‎8‎/‎26‎/‎2015‎ ‎1‎:‎03‎:‎22‎ ‎AM by 2ndDivisionVet

Trump is “the best of the lot,” Duke says of GOP frontrunner

GOP frontrunner Donald Trump can count on at least one die-hard fan: former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke.

Self described “racial realist,” Duke, praised Trump during a recent rant during his online radio show, calling the business mogul a “good salesman.”

Duke, who ran unsuccessfully for president as a Democrat in 1988 and later served in the Louisiana House of Representatives, also said he liked Trump because of “the fact that he’s come out on the immigration issue,” adding, “he’s an entrepreneur and he has a good sense of what people want to hear, what they want to buy.”

While Duke admitted Trump’s proposals could be a political ploy to get the nomination, he agreed with the real estate mogul’s policies aimed at mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, calling him “the best of the lot” among the crowded GOP primary field.

After complaining about the “Jewish domination” of the media, Duke said Trump is telling it like it is.

“Trump, he’s really going all out. He’s saying what no other Republicans have said, few conservatives say.”

Trump’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump: Megyn Kelly had blood coming out of her ‘wherever’
The Hill ^ | August 7, 2015 | Neetzan Zimmerman

Posted on ‎8‎/‎7‎/‎2015‎ ‎10‎:‎33‎:‎15‎ ‎PM by Conscience of a Conservative

Donald Trump ratcheted up his feud with Fox News host Megyn Kelly over her role as moderator on Thursday night’s Republican debate, telling CNN’s Don Lemon he has no respect for her and thinks she’s “highly overrated.”

“What is it with you and Megyn Kelly?” Lemon asked Trump, who had spent most of the past 24 hours slamming Fox News and Kelly on social media and in TV interviews. “She gets out and starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions,” Trump told Lemon. “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her — wherever.”

JawDrop

Trump also called Kelly a “lightweight” and went on to claim he wasn’t alone in his disapproval of Kelly’s debate-night demeanor, and that a source at Fox News told him they had been “inundated” with a record number of negative letters from angry viewers.

Hi – folks – just couldn’t get in the groove this week.

Last week’s three-post bender may have given me a bit of a hangover, so just one thread today.

However, it’s a doozy:

When will Jim Robinson banish Trump supporters from FR, like he did in 2007 with Giuliani advocates?
one man’s opinion…

Posted on ‎7‎/‎25‎/‎2015‎ ‎4‎:‎15‎:‎15‎ ‎PM by ken5050

On 4/23/2007, Jim Robinson posted a manifesto, “Giuliani as the GOP presidential nominee would be a dagger in the heart of the conservative movement” (and a knife in the back) . The thread was subtitled, “The only difference in a Liberal Rudy Giuliani and Liberal Hillary Clinton is the fact of which bathrooms they select to use and there are some who are willing to even question that.

*************************************************

JimRob then proceeded to banish all the pro-Rudy posters from FR. It was a purge of fairly epic proportions.Prior to that, there had been considerable support for Rudy on FR. A few months earlier, Rudy had actually placed second in a straw poll on FR. The “Rudybots” as they were termed, were actively posting pro Giuliani threads pretty much 24/7.

What finally led Jim Robinson to take this step were Giuliani’s comments in support of the Roe v. Wade decision at the May 3rd GOP presidential debate.

Prior to that, Rudy had increasingly come under the microscope at FR. The “Giuliani Truth File” was a stand alone category on the FR home page. There was an ongoing “STOP RUDY NOW News & Information Thread” that was featured.

Now let me state a few things for the record.

1. Jim Robinson is absolutely correct that a pro-choice position is anathema to FReepers. We may disagree on other topics, but this is our hill, on which we will all stand and die together. Rudy could not be the GOP nominee for that reason alone.

2. Many questioned whether Jim Rob should take such a drastic course of action..banning hundreds of people. Some felt that it would be better to engage in ongoing debate and discussion among ourselves. That was never the question. Indeed, it was never up for debate. I lost several good friends, of many years standing, that day, but I never questioned his absolute right to take that course of action. It is his website; he is free to run it as he sees fit, and those who can’t abide with his decisions have the freedom to go elsewhere.

Now that we have that out of the way, let us turn our attention to “The Donald.”

Trump is NOT a conservative.

He is not even a Republican. He was a registered Democrat from 2001-2009.

He has given far more to Democrats than to Republicans.

For most of his life, he was strongly, and proudly pro-choice. IOW, he was OK with killing babies.

He will NOT pledge to support the eventual Republican nominee, and will not promise to NOT run a third-party race.

What Trump IS, is a narcissistic, megalomaniacal, bloviating asshole. It is beyond me how so many self-proclaimed conservatives here at FR could be supporting this clown. He is utterly unfit to serve as NYC Sanitation Commissioner, let alone as President.

That is of course their absolute right to do so.

But what I fail to understand is why Jim Robinson has not as yet banished all the “Trumpsters” from FR? What, pray tell, makes “the Donald” acceptable here, whereas Giuliani was not?

However, his CANDIDACY is wonderful. He’s making the Republicans address real issues. He’s changing the dialogue. His refreshing honesty and directness has yielded ever-increasing poll numbers, and may give a lesson to people I do support (Ted Cruz).

I am against banning Trump supporters at this time. The man is doing a world of good.

Donald Trump Says McCain No War Hero: ‘I Like People Who Weren’t Captured’
The Daily Caller ^ | 7-18-2015 | Jamie Weinstein

Donald Trump escalated his feud with Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain Saturday in a way that probably wasn’t the most politically astute.

Appearing at the 2015 Family Leadership Summit in Iowa, Trump decided to make the case that McCain is not a war hero. Asked by moderator Frank Luntz why he would call a war hero like McCain a “loser,” Trump replied, “He’s not a war hero.”

“He’s a war hero because he was captured,” Trump said sarcastically. “I like people who weren’t captured, I hate to tell you.”

McCain spent five and a half years in a North Vietnamese prison where he was routinely tortured after his plane was shot down during the Vietnam War.

After hearing boos from the crowd, Trump backed off a bit: “Perhaps he’s a war hero but right now he said some very bad things about a lot of people.”

Trump was referring to McCain calling the people who attended Trump’s recent immigration rally in Arizona “crazies.”

“This performance with our friend out in Phoenix is very hurtful to me,” McCain recently told the New Yorker magazine, speaking of Trump’s July 11 rally. “Because what he did was he fired up the crazies.”

The Washington Post reported Friday that Trump is trying to recruit a primary challenger in Arizona to try to defeat McCain in his 2016 re-election bid.

On the one hand, never disparage a POW for being a POW. Bad move, Trump. On the other hand, F John McCain! Just because he was a POW doesn’t mean he has any business being a Senator. He’s been riding that horse for decades.

Ah – the dichotomy in a nutshell.

There are so many better ways he could have slammed McLame.

It’s fine line to walk

You can’t criticize them unless you were there beside them

Yet some sure pimp their wartime experiences like McCain and Kerry

What Trump said is like something Patton would have said

I don’t like McCain’s politics but this is over the top. Trump is too much into personal shots. I don’t mind the political shots, but we don’t need elementary school taunts in a presidential candidate.

Of course, The Donald’s minions swarm to his defense:

He’s a war hero all right—for the North Vietnamese. He crashed several planes and severely damaged an aircraft carrier, almost sinking it.

Trump went too far on that one. But, name some of the great POW war heroes from WWII, or Korea, or WWI.

Oh, I dunno.

Daniel Streckler, James Stockdale, Clifford Acree, Louis Zemperini (you may have heard of him) John Malcom “mad Jack” Thorpe, Gurbaksh Singh, Everett Alvarez, Jr., Douglas Bader, James Hargest, Erich Hartmann, James Robinson “Robbie” Risner, Charles Upham (my personal fave) – shall I go on?

You can’t, because hero status from most all wars was achieved in battle, not in a POW camp.

Donald Trump is in First Place in GOP Primary Poll
Vox News ^

Donald Trump has been inching upward in the polls lately, and now we finally have one from The Economist and YouGov showing him in a clear first place.

c5315-fireworks

“Trump supporters may be making more of a statement than voting for someone they consider a contender,” Kathy Frankovic writes at YouGov. “Just one in five of Trump’s supporters think Trump will win the nomination.” Other tidbits Frankovic points out are that Trump’s supporters tend to back the Tea Party and to identify as “very conservative,” and are less likely to be college-educated.

The new poll is probably a bit dispiriting for Jeb Bush, though. He had gotten a small bump to first place in three national polls conducted after his June announcement, and his team clearly hoped this would finally let him break away from the rest of the large field. Now, though, he’s down at 11 points, tied for second with Rand Paul. This new poll could be an outlier, or it could be the first sign that Jeb’s announcement bounce has worn off. (Bush’s fantastic fundraising news should help with any disappointment he feels, though)

But Trump’s 15 percent is not a particularly impressive performance in a crowded field — Bush, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Ben Carson, and Mike Huckabee have all hit or passed that number in at least one poll. Also, Trump hasn’t yet led any polls in Iowa or New Hampshire, which are generally more important than national polls. Still, it’s national polls that are being used to determine which candidates qualify for the first GOP debate, and Trump clearly makes that cut at this point.

But the big question about whether Trump will show up on stage in Cleveland on August 6 isn’t about his polling — it’s about whether he’ll actually turn in the required financial disclosures to the FEC. As Slate’s Josh Voorhees writes, many are skeptical that Trump would publicly disclose so many details of his “business empire.” It’s up to Trump to prove them wrong.

Any third party that isn’t Communist pretty much guarantees a Dem win.
As Trump himself said the other day, without Ross Perot, nobody today would remember who the Clintons are.

The GOP’s Alternate Reality: Jindal Campaign Edition

I’m feeling unoriginal today. I’m not exactly sure why but it *is* Monday so perhaps that’s it. The evidence is overwhelming that the Republican base doesn’t view the world in the same way that rational people do. Their reluctance to admit that Dylann Roof was racially motivated and not an “anti-Christian lunatic” is merely the latest example of this. Jeb Bush claims to be a centrist who will speak the truth to the base when it’s wrong. It took him almost 16 hours to admit that Roof was a racist who thought the massacre would cause a race war. Mustn’t offend the … Continue reading The GOP’s Alternate Reality: Jindal Campaign Edition

Trump-Winfrey Won’t Be Rockin’ In The Free World

As Athenae pointed out yesterday, the entire Trump “campaign” is an epic troll. It makes the freak show that is the GOP nomination process even more farcical. Call me sick but I love it, especially the thought of Trump in a debate going all Noo Yawk on Jeb, Rubio, and whoever else he feels like pounding on. I may even watch myself in the way that some rubberneck at car wrecks. The 2016 Republican race is God’s gift to satire. It almost gives me religion.. The announcement wasn’t Trump’s only act of blatant trollery, he also stated who he wants as his … Continue reading Trump-Winfrey Won’t Be Rockin’ In The Free World

Angry Pander Bear

One of the highlights of the 1992 election cycle was when Paul Tsongas called Bill Clinton a Pander Bear for obvious reasons. Bill not only felt people’s pain, he borrowed their ideas, policies, you name if, he’d use it. He was to politicians what Milton Berle was to comedians. The 2016 election cycle seems to be featuring a new variation on this theme: Chris Christie as the Angry Pander Bear. I originally thought Christie might use his Ralph Kramden/Governor Asshole persona to run against the nutty GOP base but those days are long gone. He’s gone from CPAC pariah to … Continue reading Angry Pander Bear

None Of It Matters: SOTU Edition

For fuck’s sake, NPR, this is NOT HELPFUL:  But on Tuesday Obama will try to use his speech to frame the debates for the next two years and set the table for the 2016 election. Here are five things to watch: 1. How does the president talk about the economy? [snip because HOW DOES HE TALK ABOUT IT, not WHAT DOES HE SAY] 2. What tone will he take toward Congress? [snip because THE TONE, which is critical as U.S. Goddamn Congress has delicate feelings which are easily hurt] 3. Will Obama challenge his own party? [snip because IT ONLY … Continue reading None Of It Matters: SOTU Edition
