Thanks for joining us today for everyone’s favorite game, How Many Of Them Are White Folks!
Nearly 350,000 Venezuelans are here legally, on account of exceptionally dangerous factors in their home country. They’re getting kicked out in July.
How many of them are white folks?
About 11,700 Afghani who are in the U.S. legally will have protections withdrawn in July. Around 200,000 who are here legally from Haiti get the boot about a month after that.

Let’s back up to the Afghan group for a second. Many of these people, of course, are here because they helped the long-running (don’t get me started) U.S. military operation in Afghanistan in response to 9/11. Helping our military in the face of Taliban power was an act of bravery and not insignificant risk.
But here we are, trying to send those people back to a Taliban-run Afghanistan. I’m sure that’ll go well. Here’s a good WaPo article outlining the issue. It includes some weak-sauce rationales for turning our back on these people as usual. But it also includes this.
And the idea that a cook, a janitor or a mechanic at Bagram [air base] deserves less protection than a combat interpreter is both morally bankrupt and strategically foolish,” said VanDiver, a Navy veteran. “The Taliban doesn’t do performance reviews. They don’t check résumés. They kill people for being associated with us.”
Indeed, many veterans are not pleased.
A judge ruled last week that the administration shipped people to South Suden in direct violation of a court order. Tidbit:
A woman also reported that her husband from Vietnam and up to 10 other people were flown to Africa on Tuesday morning, attorneys from the National Immigration Litigation Alliance wrote.

But wait, this game works in two directions …
In addition to ordering more attention to immigration issues, the administration ordered the FBI to literally care less about the people committing white collar crime.

(I’ll give you this one — over 73%, compared to around 59% of the general population.)
In the recent onslaught of ICE abductions and status revocations in the effort to get people out of our country as swiftly and extralegally as possible, one exception proved the rule.
Fueled by fake news, genuine racism, and having his ear bent by Elon Musk, the president decided we can make room for a particular bunch of South African citizens.
How many of them are wh — I know, even I can’t type that with a straight face.
If you missed it, Dana Milbank laid out the lies that Trump is willing to not only believe but tout to other world leaders because it plays to the white victimhood industrial complex (thanks again, Tucker Carlson). And Milbank’s editor nailed it with the headline:
Of course, merely being embarrassed by this shit is a case of considerable white privilege, compared to being ripped from your law-abiding life, sent to a different country with no legal recourse, and/or killed. But on the bright side, that embarrassment also confirms the presence of an awareness of basic American principles and also a working baseline of a moral compass.
Which, these days, ain’t nothing.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing a good chunk of the public that the Trump agenda is about legal vs. illegal. To be fair, most of those people have been more than ready for years to drape even the thinnest rationale or catchphrase over their ill-considered sense of superiority for trotting out in public, while also denying what it really is.
How many of them are white folks?
Signed,
One of the white folks
