This feature began life in 2013 as Album Cover Art Wednesday. It published at the stroke of midnight for many years until it morphed into an irregular albeit recurring feature. Much to my surprise, the old posts get hits every day. I tried to phase it out, but it refused to go gracefully. I respect such tenacity.
I give you the feature formerly known as Album Cover Art Wednesday on a Tuesday afternoon.
The jazz fusion band Dreams only recorded two albums; both have swell covers as well as tremendous personnel. Among the Dreamers were Billy Cobham, The Brecker Brothers, John Abercrombie, and Will Lee of World’s Most Dangerous Band fame.
Hoping to have the next Blood, Sweat & Tears or Chicago, Columbia Records promoted the hell out of the band’s albums, but they didn’t sell well. The music was too challenging, but the Dreamers went on to glory. In Billy Cobham’s case, he realized his musical dreams not long after Dreams broke up with the Mahavishnu Orchestra followed by a long career as a leader.
I had almost forgotten about Dreams until the cover of their first album popped up in an internet search. For some reason Mr. Google thinks I like Rene Magritte. #irony alert
The band’s debut album cover was inspired by Magritte’s Golconda and executed by David Wilcox:

The second Dreams album Imagine My Surprise was produced by Stax great Steve Cropper and featured a cover by Gahan Wilson. Wilson was best known in 1971 for his work for the National Lampoon.

I was pleasantly surprised to find so many Dreamy tunes on the YouTube. I give you one song from each album.
