Maybe this isn’t the biggest deal right now, but it should be a much larger news story that the federal government suddenly sounds like the worst shit poster on Reddit.

There are a lot of reasons for why we are here, but Biden appointing a moderate institutionalist like Merrick Garland to run the DOJ after what was then the most corrupt presidential term in history is definitely one of them. However, at least it didn’t sound like your stupid Uncle Carl on Facebook.

But the crown prince of unhinged government online behavior, the World Champ, continues to be Donald Trump. Our Donald celebrated the Christmas season by making more than 150 posts on his social hellsite, the hilariously and ironically named Truth Social.

Such behavior is insane, of course. The subjects were varied and awful, including calling half of the country “scum” and threatening news outlets. It is also something that the very people who are refusing to cover it for what it is, a sign of a president in serious mental decline, would angrily deny is possible if you predicted it during the 2024 campaign. This is the trend, you see, with the DC media: Trump doing things that if you predicted he would do if he won the 2024 election, the political press would declare you to be shrill, and when it actually happens, they mostly ignore it. It goes without saying, and no, this is not a tired thing to say, but if a Democratic president spent the holiday ranting on social media, there would be calls for the 25th Amendment.

What this teaches them is that they can more or less do what they want with limited consequence. They are also counting on Dems doing the “we must move on and unite the nation by reaching out to our friends across the aisle” once we get back in power, and the American people to shrug and want to forget it. This is what has happened for over 50 years now, and there really is no reason not to run this playbook until it stops working so well for them.

They can do what they want, make all sorts of mistakes, etc., and they can get away with it. Our people can’t make a single mistake, gaffe, etc without media people losing their minds. No wonder we have a president who feels comfortable posting more than 150 times on Christmas, the DC media will shrug.

At least polling shows that it’s still hurting Trump. But it’s still stuff that shouldn’t be normalized, at least in a non-shitty country.
