Who the hell am I? Who are you? Can I really trust you are who you say you are? Can I trust that what you are writing is really your work, with correctly identified sources for the parts that aren’t yours, or are you just a tacky criminal?
Oh, hell, just call me Agador Spartacus and be done with it. I’ll call you that, too. We’ll call it even…ly paranoid.:

A local DVD company is importing workers from third world countries — “we can’t find local workers who want these jobs.” The local Repub. Councilman isn’t concerned about the American workers who might needjobs that actually pay a living wage — Oh no! He’s worried about what happens if one of those foreign workers hits your car and has no insurance.

Mooncat – on a tangent, This American Life (npr) yesterday had a news item about a magnate who imported some workers from India to, I believe, Texas and held them in what sounds like slave-like conditions.
Interestingly enough, the central figure, (something like John Pickle), reveled in how he was helping out the poor Indians by paying engineers $2 an hour, keeping them from going off-base, and having them scrub their own toilets.
Wonder if the AL has anything in similar?

One Challen Stephens, of the Huntsville Times, is doing actual honest to gosh reporting on this story. In today’s paper, not online yet (maybe never if it ticks off enough advertisers) Stephens reports that aTim Snopl, recently arrived in town from Oregon, has been buying up rental properties and renting them to these employees at exorbitant rates. One woman from Jamaica (who left a government job there) said she had a pet goat at home and “would never let her stay here.”
Predictably, these workers are being paid less/hour than promised, working fewer hours than promised, overcharged for every damn thing and will get shipped back home not one penny richer than they arrived. This after working 12 hour shifts and living in slums while in the US.
