Too far

Yesterday’s Nazi crap and nowthis. It’s going to be very ugly from now until November…

(CNN) – During a speech before the National Rifle
Association convention Friday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky, former
Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee — who has endorsed
presumptive GOP nominee John McCain — joked that an unexpected offstage
noise was Democrat Barack Obama looking to avoid a gunman.

“That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he’s getting
ready to speak,” said the former Arkansas governor, to audience
laughter. “Somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor.”

  1. That doesn’t offend me. It is the serious statements about being comparable to a nazi sympathizer that offend me. Telling crude jokes is just crude.

  2. I read somewhere that conservatives were, on the whole, happier than liberals. However, I think that Huckaberry’s “joke”, and the audience’s response to it, reveals a far darker and scarier frame of mind held by the cons.

  3. Oh, and the reason for conservatives allegedly being, on the whole, happier than liberals, according to the article I had read, is because we liberals are too fraught with concern over the evils and injustice in the world and with trying to rectify these problems, while the cons are prefectly happy going “LA-LA-LA-LA-LA!!!”

  4. Obviously, eating deep fat-fried squirrel meat from a popcorn popper does things to your sensibilities … and your IQ.
What’s true is thatObama has received death threats from some really sick people. Huckabee’s hidden message, besides refering to him as a wimpy liberal elitist who is afraid of big powerful macho manly guns, is that people want to kill him and it would be funny if they tried … and even succeeded.
And that, Mr. Huckabee, sir, isn’t funny.

  5. get.the.fuck.out.
I want to see how this is treated, if at all, in the press.
I’m just trying to imagine anyone making that joke about any other candidate. It boggles my mind.
Maybe it’s just Huckabee’s way of saying he’s not interested in Vice President spot on a McCain ticket.

  6. Yes joking about killing liberals is just the thing for right wing radio hosts. I have more than one example of it.
Here’s the other thing. The NRA types LOVE to remind us that they “have all the guns” and that when push comes to shove, they will shove. And they can point to history to show what they can do when they want to.
I notice that they never talk about the way that Bush is protected all the time. They of course understand any threats to the President and VP will be investigated and taken seriously. And they know that they can use the treat of assassination of the president to make sure that all of his “public” outing are free of the most dangerous thing, real people asking real questions.
Now, do you suppose that they will insist that Obama or Clinton have open audiences even though they didn’t have open audiences for Bush? OF COURSE they will! If WE insisted in the same thing they won’t allow it. They will use the legitimate and valid fear of a physical attack to keep verbal attackers away.

  7. White trash is as white trash does.
Coupled with the recent revelations regarding racist Secret Service e-mails and Hillary Clinton’s constant imprecations that “something” could happen to resuscitate her moribund campaign, one could almost go “snake-eyed” enough to see a new meme emerging.
“It was the red, white and blue making war on the poor
Blind Mother Justice on a pile of manure
Say your prayers and the Pledge of Allegiance every night
And tomorrow you’ll be feeling alright, unh unh hunh”

  8. Statements like Huckabee’s make me think that Barack should have Hillary as vice president. With her next in line for the presidency the Republicans will make sure NOTHING happens to Obama.
