Bloggers really have destroyed the ethical standards of journalism.
Jim was kind of hyperbolic, but I agree that it was a newspaper FAIL. My only other thought was: Have you SEEN the kind of staffing done at 20K circ papers in small markets? We’re not exactly talking Woodward and Bernstein. Still, they seemed to know this guy had the propensity to go postal and probably should have erred on the side of not ratting out a (likely former now) subscriber.
The best years of my professional life were in a couple of those papers.
I wasn’t trying to be Woodstein.
I was trying to let the readers know what was going on in the community.
Nearly got fired for coming out as a Dan Rather fan in deep red West Texas.
