Weekend Question Thread: Redecorating

Our back porch lawn-chair-type thingies finally gave up the ghost after about ten years of use, so we had to go get new ones yesterday.

What’s the last thing you purchased or acquired for your domicile?

A.

  1. Heh. We cleaned off our screened porch and realized the ancient cushions on our old wicker chairs were destroyed so I ordered some from some online site. That was 3 weeks ago and I still haven’t seen them. Starting to get worried …

  2. Big rectangular mirror in a funky wooden frame, $5 at Goodwill. Gonna sand it, stain it and hang in strategic place in living room.

  3. His and her’s reclining loveseats; had to because our old Berklines wore out. I kept finsing nuts and bolts on the floor that had fallen off while reclined, and was worried they’d just fold up one of these days.
All the new ones have these awful poofy pillows on the arms. No nice traditional styles. Finally found some that aren’t too terrible at, of all places, Lay-z-Boy. So I am not only officially old now; I also FEEL old.

  4. A day bed for my craft room, to create a pseudo guest room in there until the adult daughter moves back out and I get my guest rom bak. It’s got a pop up trundle and is actually pretty nice. The adult son is sleeping onit while he looks for a job. Had to get him off the air mattress on the floor.
Finding an ensemble for it hasn’t been very successful yet. I just don’t like anything I see.

  5. Fixings for yet another wall-mounted bookshelf. Now holding about 150-200 hardbacks, most of which we want to keep for one sentimental reason or another.

  6. Last year when I was out of work, I gutted our guest bathroom, put in a new floor, lighting, sink, etc. I did it to prep myself for doing the same to the master bath. But it was so much hard work that I said, fuck it, we’ll live with the old bathroom.

  7. Ceiling fans for every room in the house that didn’t already have one. (No a/c here.)

  8. Got a freebie Flos LED table light a year and a half ago. Inherited my mother’s Revereware pots and pans (primo) a year ago. Warning to those in danger of acquiring stuff from old relatives (for whatever reason): their set of pots and pans will be better than anything you can buy today. Hold off buying until you get your mitts on them and you’ll see.
