Darrell Scott is one of Nashville’s top songwriters. He wrote the Dixie Chicks’ “Long Time Gone” and Sara Evans’ “Born To Fly,” the latter with Marcus Hummon, who is one of my all-time favorite songwriters.
I love Darrell’s original and Brad Paisley’s cover too, but for my money, the best version of this song is the one by Patty Loveless, whose dad was a coal miner who died of black lung. She knows whereof she sings.
Is that the same “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” written by Darrell Scott and recorded by Brad Paisley a few years ago? A big Nashville hit?
