I Have A Bad Feeling About This

On Monday my First Draft colleague JamieO wrote about the terrible freight train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. There’s a lot of blame being tossed around now. Here’s what you need to know in the immediate aftermath.

Mike DeWine, the governor of Ohio, has not asked Joe Biden for a federal disaster declaration. Instead DeWine is relying on the railroad to clean up and fix everything, taking his cues from Norfolk Southern’s CEO:

Additionally, DeWine spoke about holding Norfolk Southern accountable.

“(Tuesday) morning, I called Alan Shaw, CEO of Norfolk Southern,” DeWine said. “He and I have had contact numerous times since the crash. I discussed with him many of the concerns we’re hearing from residents of East Palestine. I asked him if he would personally guarantee, personally guarantee that the railroad would stay there until absolutely everything was cleaned up. He gave me his word and commitment that the railroad would to that. They would not leave until that was done.”

What could go wrong?

This immediately popped into my mind after writing this.
