Immigration Solutions Will Never Come From The GOP

Cruel people being cruel and uninterested in real solutions.

I wrote about the GOP potentially killing the Senate’s border deal back on Feb. 5 and of course, that’s what happened.

It is what the modern Republican Party does, kill solutions. That is their marching orders from Father Trump, who kills everything he touches, from Rudy Guliani’s retirement fund to anything that might prevent him from winning the 2024 election and proceeding with his revenge fantasies.

Of course, ever since the border deal was killed, the GOP shifted into gaslighting mode. It is Biden, they wailed, who is the problem because he won’t meet with Speaker O’ the House and Professional Weird Christian Mike Johnson. The other night on MSNBC I caught Trump Licker Steve Scalise, who has dedicated his life post-shooting to destroying any goodwill he received for being shot, ranting and raving at a NBC reporter that if only Biden would meet with Johnson, we’d have a deal.

Okay, GOP…I think I see your game here. The game is obviously that you are going to call the Democrats’ bluff, just like the Democrats did with you over the border deal. Except that’s harder to do as far as winning politically if you already killed a solution that gave you most of what you wanted.

They do not care about solutions. Ezra Klein once noted that the Republican Party has transformed from the anti-government party to the anti-governing party. The Know Nothings have become the Do Nothings unless that means cutting taxes for the wealthy and inflicting cruelty upon the people their base hates the most.

Do you want to hear people with real solutions? Here’s Pramila Jayapal on Alex Wagner’s program the other night.

Do we all agree 100 percent on immigration in the Democratic Party? Of course not. We have a much better chance of hammering out a strong solution on immigration for the nation with Democrats, however.

Trump’s vision of concentration camps and hunting down terrified immigrants will not solve a thing. It will only be cruel. Because they do not want a solution, but cruelty for cruelty’s point.

I know which side I am on.

The last word has less to do with my post and more to do with Kacey Musgraves has a new album coming and the early stuff I am hearing is pretty good, so I thought I’d share.

  1. Pastor Mike should be invited to meet with Biden…on a tour of Ukrainian front lines.
Biden’s tour prep: learning to say “this is the guy that is holding up your ammo shipments” in Ukrainian.

    “hilarity” ensues.
