Easy To Be Hard

It’s time to get groovy and post a song from the groundbreaking musical Hair. Grow it, show it, long as I can grow it, my hair, hair, hair.

Easy To Be Hard was written in 1967 by Galt McDermot, James Rado, and Jerome Ragni for the aforementioned musical Hair.

We begin with Lynn Kellogg who played the character of Sheila in the original Broadway production:

Three Dog Night had the biggest hit with Easy To Be Hard in 1969:

Sergio Mendes applied his Bossa Nova lite treatment to the song in the same year. Why weren’t they Brasil ’69 by then?

Golden Smog were an alt-country super group featuring Jeff Tweedy of Wilco and Gary Louris of The Jayhawks:

Jennifer Hudson with a 21st Century version of this week’s tune.

What would the Friday Cocktail Hour be without jazz instrumental versions of the week’s tune? This time, Stan Kenton and Barney Kessel.

That’s it for this week. Let’s toast the original cast of Hair. It’s what Chuck Negron, Danny Hutton, and Corey Wells of Three Dog Night would want. Never argue with them.
