The Republican Party’s Week Of Cracking Up

Creeper Gubernatorial Candidate Mark Robinson

About the headline: Yes, I know, they’ve been cracking up, arguably since 1980. But this was quite a week for the GOP, where the crazy and the awful seemed to go to another level. Let’s take a look, shall we?

We can start on Sunday when The New York Times demonstrated that they can still do good journalism if they want to when they published an article about Chief Justice John Roberts that is bad, bad news for anyone who believed Roberts was a moderating force on the Supreme Court. Turns out, he was/is as much of a moderating force as Ivanka was on her daddy.

Turns out, Roberts was the one who pushed the three big decisions protecting Trump from accountability for his crimes. Not Alito, Thomas, or even Beer Guy, but instead, the main driver for Trump’s immunity was Roberts. Not going to dunk too hard on the Neal Katyals of the world who were rather arrogantly insisting that anyone who didn’t view Roberts as high-minded are lefty dum-dums, because even though he took a weed whacker to the Voter Rights Act with the Shelby County decision, I didn’t think he was THAT bad. If you read the article, you will also find that he is a little, um, delusional.

Then there’s JD Vance and Trump doubling, tripling, quadrupling down on the Haitians-eating-pets thing in Springfield, Ohio, which would be comically insane if it weren’t for the fact that an entire small city is being held hostage by their delusional hate. Vance claimed that HIV and other communicable diseases have skyrocketed due to immigrants, a claim that health officials point out is complete nonsense.

My theory is they are trying to get votes from the kind of right-leaning undecideds who are not really paying attention and who are also susceptible to thinking this bullshit about immigrants. Oh, and also, the Christian right is now full-on anti-Ninth Commandment, the one about bearing false witness.

Just not a great way to boost your voting bloc.

Then we turn to our crazy-cray friend in North Carolina, Completely Insane Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson. He was covered here back in July in a guest post by Lex. You might have heard of him, he’s the GOP gubernatorial candidate who has said things like Beyonce is satanic, the moon landing is fake, and well, just read the rest for yourself because I can’t list them all. He also said, in a church, that “some people need killing.” He wants to be the Black Trump, and Trump himself said to him, “I think you’re better than Martin Luther King. I think you are Martin Luther King times two.”

Well, good old MLK Squared also is one of those right-wing figures who wants to police everyone’s sex life, including this moment where his reason for being anti-contraceptive was waving his hand near his groin and declaring that young women need to “get this under control.” So, given the long history of sex scandals featuring moralizing Christian Right figures, it should be of no surprise that Mr. Robinson is in one himself.

Despite his long history of anti-trans statements, Robinson posted on a porn site called “Nude Africa” that he is into trans porn. He also talked about creeping and watching women shower as a 14-year-old. And he also referred to himself as a “Black Nazi.” Oh, and said he wants slavery back so he can have a few himself. The knucklehead did all this using the same username, minisoldr, as he uses in other, more reputable sites.

This means he’ll drop out, right? HAHAHAHA this is the New Right, people, nothing makes sense and you woke morons ain’t gonna get anyone to drop out. The GOP pooh-bahs in North Carolina gave it a go and nope-nope-nope, says Robinson.

All this is really bad news for Trump in a highly competitive battleground state. Robinson has been considered a drag on the top of the ticket even before this, and the longer he stays in, the worse for Trump.

Speaking of that, I’ll round out my look at the not-great week for the GOP with a quick glance at the polls. Overall, the polls this week are encouraging for Harris and Democrats. Entering the home stretch, I would much rather be us than them, even if it is still insanely close (insane only because of how insane the GOP has been). But there is much work to be done, and you have to appreciate the help the GOP gave us this week.

The last word goes to Whodini.

  1. When Robinson said “some people need killing.” my reaction was “why are you always talking about yourself?”

But the other stuff? I did nazi that coming.

    1. Mr. Robinson would also like to bring back slavery, speculating that he wouldn’t mind owning some slaves his own self. My reaction is “Why do you think you’d be on the purchase end of the transaction instead of the perishable goods end?”
