This caught my eye on the Bluesky Take Machine, which I continue to enjoy much more than I was enjoying Elon’s Hellsite (TwitterX). A politician can’t really say this but I will: People can be fucking stupid.

Look at the things crudely circled in red, and please, make it make sense. It is a huge priority for Trump to lower prices, so sayeth The American People. In fact, it appears to be the number one priority for the Orange Nightmare.

Then take a look at the majority, 52%, in support of tariffs on imported goods. Okay…but maybe The American People are not aware that tariffs raise prices?

Well…The American People, or at least 59%, believe that tariffs on goods will make the prices RISE.

Again, make it make sense.

The rest of the CBS poll has some indications that The American People have some interesting takes on the early stages of the transition, which include choosing crazy people and/or sex criminals to top cabinet posts. In fact, as you may have heard, his pick for attorney general, Butthead Lookalike and probable pedophile U.S. Congresscretin Matt Gaetz had to drop out of consideration due to an unreleased Congressional investigation report. The report hasn’t been fully released, and I imagine that Gaetz dropping out was probably an attempt to prevent it from seeing the light of day.

How did The American People react to all this? Well, nearly 6 in 10 approve of the transition so far, as per that CBS poll.

There’s more in that poll to chew on and then spit out because it’s so terrible. A majority, 57%, are happy or satisfied with Donald Trump’s return. Another majority, 53%, describe themselves as excited or optimistic about Trump 2.0.

As for mass deportation, 57% approve of it, although a “mere” 40% believe the military should be involved. That 4 in 10 Americans think the military should be out rounding up undocumented immigrants is rather disturbing. I would hope that those people just do not understand what that would look like, but I have my doubts. They probably are all for it. I am more optimistic about the overall 57% who want mass deportation, like so many other things, they just never thought much about what that would look like.

How to communicate to an electorate such as this is something that Democrats have to face head-on, and while it is okay to do the Obama “we are a very wise purple nation with amazing people everywhere” in public, in private thinking that is not going to work. Look, you can tell me forever how brilliant your 15-year-old kid is but if he/she can’t give me the answer to 2 + 2, I am not going to take your word for it and you should probably get them a tutor. Once again, it’s probably not smart for a politician to run a public campaign based on “people aren’t very aware nor very bright” unless they are Republicans, who seem to get away with such things. But in private, Democrats should probably grapple with how to work with a populace who says they voted for Trump to get prices down and also support Trump policies that will increase prices.
