Trolling Harvey Milk

The idiot appointed by an idiot to run the Pentagon is a troll. Pete Hegseth is waging a war on a phantom, wokeness in the military. I hate the W word and I hate what Dirty Hands Hegseth just did: order the renaming of the USNS Harvey Milk. Just in time for Pride month. In a word: Petty.

I take this personally. I was acquainted with Harvey Milk. He would have waved that away and called me a friend. There were no strangers in Harvey Milk’s orbit. He obviously never had the chance to meet Pete Hegseth, but Harvey would have tried charming him with his wicked sense of humor. One of Harvey’s super powers was bringing out the best in people, even the worst people.

Here’s how an article at Military.com describes the vessel in question:

The Harvey Milk is a John Lewis-class oiler, a group of ships that are to be named after prominent civil rights leaders and activists,”

In addition to being a gay rights icon, Harvey served in the Navy during the Korean conflict. This rare ship renaming insults Harvey’s service and everyone in the LGBTQ community. That is, of course, the point.

The petty bigotry, it burns.

The USNS Harvey Milk isn’t the only John Lewis-class ship on Hegseth’s hit list. The others include:

  • USNS Thurgood Marshall
  • USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg
  • USNS Harriet Tubman
  • USNS Dolores Huerta
  • USNS Lucy Stone
  • USNS Cesar Chavez
  • USNS Medgar Evers

That’s not a complete list of my civil rights heroes but it comes close. What does Dirty Hands Hegseth have against Harriet Tubman? Her Underground Railroad activities that freed countless enslaved people?

The petty bigotry, it burns.

I cannot resist channeling the Bentsen Geist and applying his legendary takedown of J. Danforth Quayle to the Pentagon troll:

Mr. Secretary, I served with Harvey Milk. I knew Harvey Milk. Harvey Milk was a friend of mine. Mr. Secretary, you’re no Harvey Milk.

Harvey Milk made history. Pete Hegseth is trying to erase him from the history books. People will still be singing Harvey’s praises in fifty years, when Pete Hegseth’s name is mentioned, it will be as a joke, bigot, and troll.

Repeat after me: The petty bigotry, it burns.

The last word goes to Mr. Greg & Cass McCombs with Wave A Flag For Harvey Milk:
