The Bonfire Of The MAGA Vanities

We begin with a mea culpa of sorts. I’m feeling out of sorts after writing this a mere week ago:

I’m irked that we’re still talking about the Epstein files after all these years. Unlike your basic MAGA maggot, I have never found this story interesting.”

Wearing my publisher’s hat, I reminded my writers how much I hate the Epstein story. I still do but my ban on writing about it ended because of the uproar over how Trump and Bondi are handling it; make that mishandling. They’ve dropped the proverbial ball. I refuse to spike the ball, but MAGA cannibalism is a beautiful thing to behold.

Initially, I assumed the MAGA maggot masses would continue to eat whatever bullshit the Insult Comedian fed them. I didn’t fathom how deep their obsession with Epstein ran. How could I? The appeal of MAGA and Q are mysterious to me. How anyone could fall for the lies of a blatant con man is beyond me but fall they did.

I realized that shit was real when I heard about this rant from neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes:

Trump’s neo-Nazi former sidekick (no, not Elon Musk) torched the president on his show America First Wednesday night for calling his supporters that were still interested in alleged sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein “weaklings.”

“Fuck you! Fuck you! You suck! You are fat, you are a joke, you are stupid, you are not funny, you are not as smart as you think you are,” Fuentes fumed.

“If you watch my show, you know I’ve been very critical. I’ve never been this far,” Fuentes said. “This just goes to show, this entire thing has been a scam. When we look back on the history of populism in America, we are gonna look back on the MAGA movement as the biggest scam in American history. And the liberals were right, the MAGA supporters were had!”

“When we look back in history we will see Trump as a scam artist,” he added.”

Fuentes was a nobody until he dined with the Kaiser of Chaos at Mar-a-Lago. He’s showing his erstwhile host the same ingratitude Trump displays towards anyone who has fallen out with him. It’s unclear how many fine young or old cannibals there are, but MAGA cannibalism is more real than the dog-eating denizens of Ohio that Trump and Vance ranted about during the campaign.

I feel a musical interlude coming on:

Rank and file MAGA maggots are feeling betrayed by Trump’s Epstein files lies. The agita accelerated with the disgusting details in the Wall Street Journal story Team Trump tried to squelch.

Will they finally notice that he’s lied to them about, well, everything?

Will they finally notice that the Big Ugly Bill slashes Medicaid?

Will they finally notice that the so-called champion of the working class is a rich asshole who’s stealing the country blind?

Will they finally notice that their dear leader has contempt for them?

One would hope so, but we’ve gotten our hopes up before, which is why my response to this mishigas is DON’T SPIKE THE BALL.

We still don’t know how deep this MAGA meltdown runs or where it’s headed. One thing for certain is that the standard Trump playbook isn’t working. Josh Marshall has noticed that too:

What makes me finally start to think Trump might really be in trouble — like trouble in a way we haven’t seen in the Trump era, in a possibly existential way — is that he’s doing his same old thing but it’s not working. “It’s fake. Obama did it. I’ll sue.” Yada yada yada. But none of it is working. And despite that, he keeps doing the same thing that isn’t working at a higher volume. He doesn’t have any second angle. The “release all the (none of the) documents” ploy is just another version of the same. He’s trying to fast-forward the thing that already didn’t work — something that only makes it more obvious that he’s lying and that actually releasing everything is impossible for him. (Only that can explain why the current spectacle is somehow his better option.) Each time he does it, he just underlines how damaging the information must be — how much he fears it. So the water to put out the fire is actually just gasoline to make it bigger. Everything is accelerating. The whole story is just Trump testifying against himself in Trump Speak.”

I’m reluctant to predict that this is the beginning of the end of the MAGA cult. Many of them know that Trump lies but this time he’s lied about something important to them. I don’t get it but the most crazed of the MAGA maggots believes that there’s a coterie of elite pedophiles destroying the country. They’ve finally realized that Donald Trump is one of those elites. He’s certainly destroying the country on a bonfire of his own vanities.

The post title is inspired by the title of the great 1987 Tom Wolfe novel, which in turn was inspired by the demented Dominican friar Savonarola whose antics that caused a frenzy in Firenze in 1497. Team Trump is hoping the current furor will bomb like Brian DePalma’s 1990 film adaptation of The Bonfire Of The Vanities. Here’s hoping that the red hats will finally realize President Pennywise is The Great Deceiver foreseen by King Crimson in 1974. Until then, burn, baby, burn.

The last word goes to King Crimson:
