One thing I inherited from my father is pride in the accomplishments of Greek Americans. I’m usually not as OTT on the subject as Lou was, but I’m channeling him after the principled resignation of Dr. Demetre Daskalakis as director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.
There’s only one word that captures the tone of Dr. D’s resignation letter: Scathing.
The intentional eroding of trust in low-risk vaccines favoring natural infection and unproven remedies will bring us to a pre-vaccine era where only the strong will survive and many if not all will suffer. I believe in nutrition and exercise. I believe in making our food supply healthier, and I also believe in using vaccines to prevent death and disability. Eugenics plays prominently in the rhetoric being generated and is derivative of a legacy that good medicine and science should continue to shun.
The recent shooting at CDC is not why I am resigning. My grandfather, who I am named after, stood up to fascist forces in Greece and lost his life doing so. I am resigning to make him and his legacy proud. I am resigning because of the cowardice of a leader that cannot admit that HIS and his minions’ words over decades created an environment where violence like this can occur. I reject his and his colleagues’ thoughts and prayers, and advise they direct those to people that they have not actively harmed.
Respect for expertise has been declining for years. Just look at social media: It’s full of amateur experts on every subject. There are amateur lawyers, engineers, doctors, detectives, and whatever who spring to life whenever shit hits the proverbial fan. I use that term because that’s what they’re full of, SHIT.
In addition to his vaccine expertise, Dr. D has several more strikes against him as far as the MAHA morons running DHS are concerned: He’s gay and served as a medical adviser to President Biden. The latter makes him part of the so called deep state, and the former makes him anathema to the bible bangers that populate Team MAGA.
Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, the former head of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), on Thursday said Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has not been briefed by agency experts on measles, COVID-19 and the flu.
“No one from my center has ever briefed him on any of those topics,” Daskalakis told Kaitlan Collins during a Thursday evening appearance on CNN’s “The Source.”
Our federal health care system is in the hands of crackpots. The bull goose crackpot is Bobby Junior, but his ethos permeates HHS. Eugenics is making an unwelcome comeback as he pushes ideas that were fashionable in the early 20th Century and anathema to modern medicine. This back to the future shit is out of control.
One of the people we have to thank for this sorry situation is Doctor Senator Bill Cassidy. My senator was the key vote to confirm Bobby Junior who lied to his face about his views on vaccines.
In the wake of the CDC purge, Cassidy is still in a defensive crouch afraid to do anything that will alienate the MAGA base. It’s too late, Bill. Your reelection bid is doomed no matter how hard you suck up to the Kaiser of Chaos and ignore the malefactions of Bobby Junior. All its gotten Cassidy is a place in the malakatude hall of fame. Thanks for nothing, asswipe.
I’m proud to call Dr. Demetre Daskalakis my countryman. He spoke truth to power and effectively told Bobby Junior to go fuck himself. That cannot be said often enough. Neither can this: The MAHA malakatude, it burns.
