Patrick Morrisey Needs To Resign

Pat Morrisey is the current governor of West Virginia. It’s clear that he hates being in WV (he’s a carpetbagger from New Jersey) and is looking for a way to be able to spend his time in DC instead.

Prior to being elected governor, Morrisey was a lobbyist for the opioid industry. So of course once he was elected state Attorney General he spent his time trying to pollute WV’s air and water, and making mining less safe for the people actually doing the work, normal for a millionaire and sees WV solely as a colony to be plundered. Morrisey is also a seditionist–he signed on to Ken Paxton’s seditious attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

Oh and when it looked like SNAP benefits were going to be stopped, Pat held the funds to feed his constituents hostage in order to run a weird Hunger Games telethon. So when the president started his trial run to make sure he could live in the White House forever by calling up the National Guard, Morrisey could not run fast enough to send the WV NG.

You know how it turned out—the National Guard is not a law enforcement organization and its members are not law enforcement officers and after all of the mockery of the president not getting the photo ops he had hoped for, a law enforcement incident took the life of one of the NG members and the other is still fighting for his life. It’s a tragedy on so many levels.

One level is that in a small population state like WV, National Guard members are our neighbors and our friends. My neighbor just retired this summer as a senior officer in the Guard. I sing in my choir with one of Andy Wolfe’s high school teachers. This tragedy resonates really strongly in a small group of people.

And so the governor handled this delicate situation in a state where he really has no community roots and no real interest in the people he governs is a deft, insightful way.

LOLOL, no. This is what he did:

He didn’t check with families first—he didn’t even call them to say how sorry he was. Think about it. If he had called them first he would have known at that moment that they were both still alive.

But Pat doesn’t give a shit about anyone but Pat. The people of WV are just props to him. How the families might feel hearing him incorrectly share the news that their loved ones had died never crossed his mind. But you can bet being credited with breaking the terrible news was on his list.

How do I know this? Because a judge ruled that the use of the National Guard was an unlawful deployment and Morrisey, who had been WV AG remember, didn’t order the WV NG home. The only think Pat cares about is the president’s approval.

And when the backlash on social media began after he unprofessionally and cruelly traumatized the families, this was his response:

So instead of acknowledging that he had made a terrible mistake, he went after the people who rightfully criticized his terrible sequence of decisions. What incredible leadership! Not one of the rest of the WV GOP delegation had anything useful to say about it but in their defense, they are usually too busy given their heavy presidential boot licking schedules.

The WV Democrats did make a decent response:

The one thing that makes me wonder if this really is an event that could politically hurt Morrisey are Tuesday’s comments from Hoppy Kercheval, the dean of WV broadcasting and definitely not a liberal:

So, Morrisey wholeheartedly believed in the mission and wanted to support Trump, so he used his authority as governor to order our citizen soldiers to Washington.  Morrisey has continued to stress, at nearly every press availability that the Guard members volunteered for the D.C. duty. Yes, but it was Morrisey’s decision to send them out-of-state on what was an ill-defined mission.

Thus, this fact: Had Governor Morrisey NOT sent the West Virginia National Guard to Washington, Beckstrom would be alive, and Wolfe would not be fighting for his life.  That may seem harsh, but true leadership brings with it not only the accolades that accompany power and success, but also the tremendous burden of life-altering decisions.

Dwight Eisenhower said, “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.”

Again, the shooter is the person directly responsible for the dastardly attack on West Virginia’s soldiers. But Governor Morrisey, as the commander of the West Virginia National Guard, is responsible for sending our citizen soldiers on a dubious mission.

I can’t tell you even one time where I agreed with Hoppy’s take on, well, anything. But here we are agreeing that Morrisey has really fucked up.

I also think he should resign. He just doesn’t care. We deserve better. I’ll leave you with this:

  1. It’s too bad that the citizens of this state are stuck with this guy who is obviously in over his head as governor. His first 10 months have amounted to nothing and now he’s using this tragedy for his own aggrandizement.
