My colleague Jamie O wrote a wonderful tribute to Rob Reiner yesterday. I, too, have fond memories of his work as a director but it always comes back to All In The Family for me, especially Reiner’s onscreen relationship with Carroll O’Connor as Archie Bunker.

I’ve long said that Donald Trump is Archie Bunker without his redeeming characteristics. Archie was a bigot who loved his family and was capable of learning from his mistakes. Donald Trump is a bigot who only loves himself and keeps making the same mistakes. He did it again after Rob and Michele Reiner were murdered:

Everything is about Donald Trump. He blames the Reiner’s murder on Rob’s opposition to MAGA.  In a word: madness. The alleged murderer is their son, Nick. It’s a family matter. It’s a family affair that has nothing to do with the Insult Comedian.

I rarely comment on the day-to-day madness of the Kaiser of Chaos. He’s always talking shit and lying about his adversaries. He feels the need to opine on every subject in the world even when it blows up in his face. He’s a mouthy Wile E Coyote:

Public attacks on the recently deceased are tacky and tasteless. I almost never indulge in them. When it’s his time, I’ll make an exception for President Pennywise. He’s a degenerate pipsqueak who thinks he’s a giant. I told you he was delusional.

I’m irked by the blatant hypocrisy of Trump’s post mortem attack on Rob Reiner. Remember the mad rush to punish anyone who said anything mean about Charlie Kirk? This was Rob Reiner’s response to that public shooting:

“Well, horror. Absolute horror. And I, unfortunately, saw the video of it and it’s beyond belief, what happened to him and that should never happen to anybody. I don’t care what your political beliefs are, that’s not acceptable, that’s not a solution to solving problems.”

Repeat after me: Rob Reiner was a good man. Donald Trump is an asshole.

Let’s circle back to the post title: It was nearly titled, STFU, Donald. Then my All In The Family memory muscle kicked in: Stifle was what Archie Bunker said when he wanted someone to shut up. It was usually directed at his garrulous wife, Edith: Stifle, dingbat. It was occasionally aimed at his liberal son-in-law: Stifle, meathead. Donald Trump is a dingbat *and* a meathead. Stifle, Donald.
