It’s Friday the 13th, hence the featured image. Slasher flicks aren’t my jam, so I’ve only seen one of the 444 editions of that film franchise. I do, however, dig that shot of Jason in his hockey mask at Times Square. He would have fit right in before Disneyfication: It was rough and seedy in 1972 when this song was written and recorded by Stevie Wonder.
On the subject of superstitions, I agree with Stevie: Superstition is a waste.
We begin with the songwriter:
Beck, Bogert & Appice were a merger of the Jeff Beck Group and Vanilla Fudge. They recorded the second most famous version of this week’s tune.
Let’s smooth things out with the boss Bossa Nova stylings of Sergio Mendes:
FCH regular Mel Tormé took a swing at this week’s tune and hit a double.
Stevie Ray Vaughan. Say no more.
Macy Gray makes her FCH debut with her cover of the wonderful Wonder classic.
When Stevie met Jeff, musical magic was made.
What would the Friday Cocktail Hour be without instrumental versions of the week’s tune? This time, keyboard wizard Ahmad Jamal followed by The Ventures:
That’s it for this week. Let’s drink to the American service members obliged to fight in Trump’s Iran War. Please be careful out there. It’s what Tony and Stevie would want. Never argue with them.
