So Much Losing, You’re Going To Get Tired Of The Losing

Going to piggy-back a bit on Adrastos’ post yesterday about Trump’s entry into history’s Worst Presidential Address of All Time contest, and pull back some to a 30,000-foot view of what appears like an administration spinning out of control.

Like him, I never watch Trump’s speeches/addresses/babblings live. In my case, I figure I have to deal with nonsense and difficult people in life itself; I don’t really need to watch the President of the United States and add to it.

I normally receive all the Trump Speaks updates on Bluesky via journalist Aaron Rupar, who has, for more than 10 years, live posted just about every time the Rotting Semi-Sentient Carrot opens his big yapper in front of a camera. I didn’t need to see it, of course, and perhaps the best review of his “speech” Wednesday night is this one:

That was terrible speech in every conceivable way.

The speech was on April 1, fitting not just because it was on April Fool’s Day, but also because it was a clear indicator that the worst month Trump has ever had as a president was bleeding into April. All of this is self-inflicted. Invading Iran based on a macho power-first ideal that we blow up the bad guys real good and then The End flashes on the screen has worked out about as well as it always does – not good.

For starters, there’s the pesky little issue of the Strait of Hormuz, which the big brains at the Department of War couldn’t be bothered to think about because their ass-kicking would make everything else fall into place. Kind of how a tough guy at a bar doesn’t think about ending up in jail for assault or being sued into bankruptcy for medical bills.

Just over a month ago, Trump was bragging about gas under three bucks a gallon; now it’s over four. But that’s not all. Fertilizer, petrochemical products, diesel, and jet fuel are all higher, and that will make so many other things more expensive.

His cabinet seems to be falling apart as well. Yesterday, Worst AG of All Time Pam Bondi was canned, and last month Dog Killing Loser Kristi Noem got the heave-ho. Rumors are flying that Chief Liar Karoline Leavitt is on the outs. Note these are all women, of course. Weekend Fox News Host Pete Hegseth is back to firing generals, ousting the Army chief of staff and two other generals. Hard to know if this is over these generals being too interested in DEI for Hegseth, who obviously wants a white male army, or something as bad, like refusing to follow illegal orders. And also, great idea to fire generals for bullshit reasons during a war!

There are various and sundry other things to point out that aren’t going well for Trump, like a court telling him he can’t build his ballroom, the Supreme Court seemingly rolling their eyes at his solicitor general’s argument for getting rid of birthright citizenship while he was in the courtroom, and more or less destroying every alliance America has in just over a year. But his health continues to be an issue.

The guy plain looked and sounded like shit Wednesday night. For a guy who used to babble on about others being “low energy” he sounded like his tank was pushing down toward the E. There is constant speculation about whatever is going on with his discolored hand, and the man has a tough time staying awake during meetings.

Mentally, he was never Neil DeGrasse Tyson, but lately, he is even more nonsensical, often going on tangents about his stupid ballroom or Sharpie pens for no apparent reason. And by the way, that story he told about talking to the CEO of the company that makes Sharpie never happened. Is it dementia or just Trump’s normal lying, the ultimate question of our current time.

All of this has added up to a plunging approval rating. Even if you subscribe to the not-true belief that polls are nonsense, they are not wrong to the point where they are missing some secret population of Americans who actually like Trump. He is at all-time lows for a president at this point.

None of this is to say he still isn’t dangerous. A cornered wounded animal is often very dangerous. It’s hard to know what he might try to stop the midterms or mess with the results. God help us what he might try in Iran. But by any measure, this is an administration spinning out of control and falling apart.

The last word goes to Rory Gallagher.
