Irked In April

After yesterday’s Bette Davis centric post, I thought it wise to post a picture of her Hollywood rival, Joan Crawford. I may not believe in an afterlife but who wants to take a chance on the Joan geist coming after you with an axe? Nobody axed for that.

The news cycle has been grim and relentless. It’s enough to make anyone cranky. You know what that means. It’s time for our monthly exercise in vexatious venting about irksome things.

I’m irked that Gret Stet Senator Bill Cassidy is urging Democrats to switch parties to vote for him as the real moderate in the May 16 primary race. Say what? His vote to confirm Bobby Junior trumped his vote to convict the Insult Comedian; pun intended. It also proved that he’s a gullible schmuck as he believed Bobby Junior’s lies. Besides, the idea of voting for any Republican in 2026 is bad enough but re-registering? No fucking way.

This song title sums up my feelings about Dr. Senator Cassidy and his Senate Republican colleagues:

I’m irked by the mysterious statement issued by Melania Trump last week. She declared her innocence of crimes that she has not been accused of. Did the Kaiser of Chaos want her to distract attention from his disastrous war? I have my doubts; they’ve been trying to bury the Epstein story all year. That’s why I figure that another stiletto will drop soon about her ties to Epstein and Maxwell.

I’m irked that the legacy media insists on calling Hungarian strong man Viktor Orban a conservative. I love Michelle Goldberg but she sprinkles the C word all over a column about Orban. He’s not a conservative, he’s a fascist. In her case, I assume her editors insist that she mislabel this malevolent martinet. The NYT is big on euphemisms: they still have a hard time calling the Kaiser of Chaos a liar. I don’t: He’s a lying fascist fuck.

Repeat after me: It’s time for Orban to go. The Hungarian people agree.

I’m irked that I have to think about JD Vance today or any other day for that matter. First, Vance campaigned with the aforementioned defeated Hungarian despot, then he declared defeat in talks with Iran. Did Team MAGA really expect a quick and dirty solution to their pointless war? It won’t be quick, but it will be dirty.

I’m irked that the Gret Stet lege is working on legislation to solve a non-existent problem. I’ll let the Louisiana Illuminator describe this fakakta legislation, so I don’t have to

A bill advancing in the Louisiana Legislature would prohibit private employers from punishing employees who willingly refer to anybody by the incorrect gender.

A wingnut pastor named Luke Ash claims to have been fired from his side gig at a Red Stick library for pronoun abuse. The right-wing media is buying this Ash hole’s story but I am not. It’s another skirmish in the stupidest conflict of all: the culture war.

Finally, I’m irked that people believe that trolls are a social media phenomenon. They’ve always been with us. I just watched the 1966 Roger Corman movie The Wild Angels. The biker’s use of Nazi regalia was all about trolling Brokaw’s greatest generation.

Repeat after me: Don’t feed the troll.

The last word goes to Steppenwolf:
