A year ago we learned that a fringe right wing character had been killed. The vast majority of people had no idea who he was and so it was only a minor news story. I wrote about it last year. Here’s the pertinent part:
There was once another widow who suddenly lost her husband, and he was unknown apart from a distinct circle of followers. When he died she decided to try to turn him from a man into a legend. She was hampered by a few things: neither of them had ever done anything of note, anything selfless, anything inspiring. All they had was a pulsing hatred of anyone that didn’t want to worship them.
After his death, the right wing in this country tried so hard to make us care about him. Everyone in the right wing echo chamber was suddenly his best friend, now oh-so-broken-hearted. We were told over and over that he would have been president one day, but it was clear that he was a hateful nothing.
And now a year later the members of his party are running the same op again. From the equally pointless GOP fake convention:

They’re all pretending he was their BFF again, too. They really want us to think they care and that means we should, I dunno, let them do whatever they want to this nation? Because that’s what he would have wanted? They can’t connect us with their sorrow because their sorrow is fake. They want to make us feel guilty, but none of us had anything to do with his death because most of US society had no idea who he was, and a year later he is as irrelevant to the future of this country as he was before he died.
It takes work to build a coalition. It takes work to nurture relationships, and it takes work to raise up real leaders, not a weirdo who tried to browbeat college students as his claim to fame. A year after his death he’s still the same stupid racist nobody he was a year ago.
Good.
I’ll leave you with this:
