New jobless claims last week rose by 17,0000 over the previous week.

In the week ending Dec. 18, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 333,000, an increase of 17,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 316,000. The 4-week moving average was 340,000, an increase of 2,250 from the previous week’s unrevised average of 337,750.

Also, consumer spending in November rose only 0.2%, less than the expected 0.3% and much less than October’s 0.8% rise. Incomes grew by 0.3%, down from a 0.6% increase in October
