National Character Counts Week

I saw this earlier and thought it referred to last week but thenRaw Story pointed to it and I realized that it is this week…Indeed Bush declared this week to beNational Character Counts Week

America’s strength is found in the spirit and character of our people. During National Character Counts Week, we renew our commitment to instilling values in our young people and to encouraging all Americans to remember the importance of good character.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 15 through October 21, 2006, as National Character Counts Week. I call upon public officials, educators, librarians, parents, students, and all Americans to observe this week with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs.

So W signed the torture bill during National Character Counts Week. Ya can’t make this stuff up. I wonder what else he has planned for the week? Feel free to submit your ideas…

  1. Since they LOVE to reinterpret things, what THEY thought it meant was
CHARACTER Counts as in the NUMBER OF Characters (aka LETTERS) in a blog post for instance. For example your post Scout?
    963 Characters.
Characters WITH SPACES? 1,151 (important when you are submitting ideas to Oprah! Believe me I know!
Or maybe they thought Character counts as in the Character in the White House “Oh those wacky characters in the White House! What WILL THEY think of NEXT? Heavens to Betsy, Torture is standing for hours? It’s just like BAND PRACTICE!”
“Torture, not just for Foreigners anymore!
It’s an essential part of this Christian President’s administration!”

  2. It’s too early for a round of vote stealing, but it is always time for torturing cats.

  3. Character Counts is a non profit, non partisan organization that organized National Character Counts Week. Hundreds of schools are celebrating it, and it doesn’t have anything to do with President Bush. He just acknowledged it.

  4. No, actually, he Proclaimed it “National Character Counts Week”. Character Counts is a non-profit all the year long. Bush used the group, the way he uses everyone who might advantage him, to somehow make himself look to have more character than he actually possesses.
