The NRA Supports Terrorists!

Oh, this is going to be fun.

The National Rifle Association is urging the Bush administration to withdraw its support of a bill that would prohibit suspected terrorists from buying firearms.

Backed by the Justice Department, the measure would give the attorney general the discretion to block gun sales, licenses or permits to terror suspects.

This makes it pretty clear that the NRA is pretty much nothing but a trade group for arms makers/dealers.

no WAY! I mean … wow. just. wow.
if the GOP toes the line on this one, it will be a fun dance to watch.

Well, since the Bushies consider all Democrats, environmentalists, peace activists, and brown people to be possible terrorists, perhaps the NRA is working in my interest for once.

This makes it clear, or it will, as soon as the GOP endorses this position, that the GOP is willing to give up the entire Bill of Rights to “fight terrorism” as long as the 2nd amendment is not sacrificed. Better to be armed than to have freedom of speech. Better to be armed than to have a right to peaceable assembly. Better to be armed than to have a right to due process. (We already gave up that one.) Better to be armed than to have the right to a jury trial. (Gave up that one already, too.)

This has been clear for five years now, since AG Ashcroft blocked FBI investigation of Al Qaeda gun purchases in the U.S.
    In case you forgot.

Perhaps the NRA is worried that after Oklahoma City bombing, the Atlanta Olympics bombing, etc that terrorism may also be applied to white anglo-saxon males.

  8. mdhatter says:

I hate to say it, but the NRA is right.
“Suspect” and “convict” still have different meanings in this country.

What about the people who are loners and picked on relentlessly by the stupendous student body? What about all the warning signs that went unheeded?
