Dome

Nearly 250,000 have fled San Diego County due to raging wildfires. And once again a sports dome has become anevacuation center

Qualcomm Stadium, home to the NFL’s Chargers, was added to a growing list of evacuation centers.

I’m sure that will not be lost on Dave Zirin author of“Welcome to the Terrordome:The Pain, Politics and Promise of Sports I heard Dave speak atRising Tide and he was very good. His book is an interesting read.

UPDATE:

Tbogg has updates on what is happening in the area. Oh andGlenn Beck is an asshole of the first order.

UPDATE:LA Times reports “thousands are flocking to Qualcomm Stadium.”

And my bad, as Jude in comments points out that Qualcomm is not a Dome

    Thanks for the news, Scout.
Didn’t know that about the Qualcomm stadium.
Didn’t know that tbogg’s had some new info about the fires.
    As for Glenn Beck…

  2. Jude says:

It’s kind of a minor point, but Qualcomm Stadium isn’t a dome.
Which means the poor people taking refuge there don’t get the benefit of filtered, conditioned air.
And I’d say that Glenn Beck could suck my nuts, but I’d just end up hating myself.

    Ooops. Thanks Jude.

My little brother is in San Diego. He called today and said he might have to evacuate tomorrow. He says the streets are filled with smoke and the whole city smells like the inside of the Boot at 2 AM.

but living in new orleans is an insane idea.

  6. Andrea says:

We live just outside San Diego city limits, inland. The air is very smoky, so we’ve stayed indoors as much as possible. My mom lives in Spring Valley, about 10 minutes drive from us. She said they may evacuate Spring Valley, in which case she will stay with us.
Four years ago the Cedar fire came within a quarter mile of our house.

I can hardly wait for the rising sea level to washout all the anti-American citizens who live along our shores.
