  1. earlier in the week there was a question posed regarding teh olympics. i commented that i wouldn’t watch.
well, i ended up in bed last night at an earlier hour than usual and turned the tube on at what turned out to be the start of the opening ceremonies.
you could have knocked me over with a feather. those chinese people sure know how to put on a show. it was breathtakingly beautiful, mindblowingly complex and executed to a degree of perfection that was a true wonder to behold — in a word, stunning.
my only complaint was about nbc’s completely lame camera work and commentator assignment. the jerking around of the camera seemingly randomly from one place to another, while the commentators kept their heads so firmly up their asses that they rarely informed the viewing public what we were looking at, meant that often i found myself confused in terms of orientation and not able to fully appreciate the astonishing performance piece.
a side treat was seeing shots of george bush looking uncomfortable and trapped — i’d like to see him spend every day of the rest of his life feeling that way. and i laughed heartily at the absence of mention of or showing other heads of state also attending, other than karzai of afghanistan, because to mention them would (well, should anyway) let the elephant of george bush’s unpopularity into the room.
kudos to the chinese people for a truly spectacular event.
