Well, so much for taking this week off – let’s dive in before I change my mind.

Akin said he has no plans to withdraw.
“I don’t know that I’m
the only person in public office who’s suffered from foot-in-mouth
disease here, and this was a very, very serious error. On the other
hand, there are so many good people in Missouri who nominated me, and
they understood my heart,” Akin said.
…
Akin said no Republicans have called him and asked him to withdraw from the race.
“No
one has called me and said, ‘Todd, I think you should drop out,'” Akin
said. “No one has said that. But I gather people are saying that in the
media, but they didn’t specifically call me and tell me that.”

Anybody know his number?

Funny, Drudge currently has a story up that he just announced he’s dropping out? Which story is more recent?

Matt Drudge hasn’t gotten anything right since 1998 – are you still hanging out there?
To: Blackyce
What he meant was that fewer than one-tenth of one percent of abortions are the result of rape, but that’s not what he said.
This is exactly why Claire McCaskill ran “anti-Akin” ads in the
Republican primary dog-whistling Democrats to cross over and vote for
him.
Unfortunately for Claire he blew up sooner and more thoroughly than she had planned.
Akin will be gone and Brunner will be in his place by next weekend.

There’s just two things wrong with your 11th-dimensional chess theory – you’re an idiot, and he’s still running.

He hasn’t got a snowball’s chance in hell of winning and he could
very well lose Missouri for Romney.Get him the hell out of there!!!!!!

Soros is probably pouring millions into his campaign right now to keep the imbecile in the race.
Soros has his minions donating to make it appear he has all this conservative support.
And FWIW, I just listened to him on Hannity. The guy is dumb as a
rock. “I am conservative. We need to get rid of Claire McCaskill. I am
conservative. We need to beat Claire McCaskill. Rinse repeat.

I don’t give a damn that this guy said something politically
incorrect.
No, he said something shit-stupid.
If conservatives are not only willing to throw him under the
bus, but seem to take a certain amount of glee in doing it, then we are
already lost. Leftist thinking has won out.
Tellit to Limbaugh.
Leftists never apologize,
never give in, and they never tear down their own people in power no
matter how many mistakes they make. That is why they are winning.
Meanwhile, every time some Republican says “macaca”, “conservatives” are
all too eager to tear him down and cede the win to the leftists.
That’s because “macaca” is a racist slur.
Seems to me that there are quite a few conservatives, including
Freepers, with no heart at all. Resisting the tyranny of political
correctness is hard, and they are just looking for an excuse to enter
the warm embrace of submission. Oh, a Republican said something that the
media can misconstrue?
Misconstrue??
That’s never happened before! Let’s take this
opportunity to be every bit as petty and irrational as the lefties so
that we can look around at our leftist masters and say “See? I’m cool
too!”

More inernecine warfare after the jump for joy.
I’m wondering if fr_freak is the nom de plume of my roommate’s friend. Said friend is loudmouthed, boorish, a bully, misogynistic, homophobic, and racist. and what fr_freak wrote sounds exactly like something he would say, except he would throw in some nasty coments about the “N****rs” multiple times. If it were my house, I would have thrown him out on his ear, even with my broken leg. Unfortunately this is how too many men think.
“Soros is probably pouring millions into his campaign right now to keep the imbecile in the race.”
DRAT! The freepers have caught onto our cunning plan!
If the freeperati figure out that that they can counter Soros with contributions to McCaskill’s campaign, our plot to control the Senate is DOOMED.
“…and no politician should be caught having a sensitive conversation with idiots.”
So there truly is no hope for Congress, if interaction with idiots is to be avoided.
“The Virgin Mary was impreganated by God without her consent”??????
Um…
um…
um…
Wow. I can’t believe any of the Freepers let that slide.
The entire reason Mary is venerated so highly in Christianity is BECAUSE SHE CONSENTED, YOU FUCKING IDIOT!
Her most famous, most quoted, most turned-into-hymns statement is “Magnificat anima mea dominum”. “My soul magnifies the lord–let it be done to me as you have said.” (And if you believe the provenance of the Gospels, this story came from Mary herself.)
That’s what made her special, Mr. Asswipe Akin. Sure, God could have raped anyone, but Mary was chosen because she said yes. (Did Gabriel go to thousands of other women first? Was Mary his first choice? The Bible doesn’t say.)
But it explicitly says SHE WASN’T FUCKING RAPED. SHE explicitly said that.
I can’t believe any “good Christian” would let their Divine Mother and archetype for all human females be reduced to a mindless uterus with no say in her fate. Well, yes, I could, with these assholes claiming to be “Christian.” I can’t believe this idiot a) thinks his God is a rapist and b) WILLINGLY WORSHIPS A RAPIST.
(That was also used as one of the main distinguishing characteristics of early Christianity from other contemporary religions: our god asked to impregnate a mortal, and your gods are all rapists. Why would you worship rapists?)
I hope the Marion societies hunt this asshat down and strangle them with their rosaries.
Dorothy,
It was statutory rape by God, Mary was only 13, wasn’t she?
Well, she was already betrothed to Joseph, so I don’t think she was legally a minor.
Still can’t wrap my brain around a guy a) thinking his god is a rapist, b)not having any moral issues with that, and c) his god-fearing constituents not even blinking at that statement.
It explains so much about the right-wing id, doesn’t it?
As a current House member, Akin is on the science committee.
I might could cut him some slack that the “legitimate” was bad wording done under pressure. At the same time, it leads down the road that if a pregnancy results, then it wasn’t rape. Leading to the good ole boy sayings such as the woman really wanted it; she enjoyed it; no doesn’t really mean no. As such, it seems to paint an interesting picture of what goes through his mind on a wide range of issues such as women’s healthcare and sexual assault.
But the contrived explanation of some sort of magical self-imposed abortion also shows both that his grasp of basic science is below 3rd grade level and that he proudly forms policies on the basis of his ignorance. (The closest I can think of are some animals that can delay implantation).
The statement on nazi death camps is rather ridiculous. Even if evidence of this could be found, even a knee jerk reaction recognizes that the folks in the camps were severely malnourished and subject to extreme conditions. Not to mention that the “science” applied in such camps was subject to extreme doctrinal bias, lack of review, experiments invented without rigor of thought, covert interference by other inmates who were trying to save the lives of the subjects/victims, etc. Data are unuseable. And I haven’t even gotten to the moral aspects of using any data (assuming reliable data may be found).
And Mary raped??????? See Dorothy above. As far as age, folks try to extrapolate from the scant amount that is known to make conclusions regarding a lot of things. It wasn’t too long ago in the USA when folks married much younger than today.
Locally, I haven’t noticed any of the Akin signs disappear. The lady running for representative in the next district over has announced that she may disagree with him on that, but will be voting for him.
Kibitzer – there’s a bonus Obsession posted earlier that you missed.
And only a First Draft reader could make a comment about the Marion Societies.
Our peeps are the best and the brightest – for reals.
Tommy
“Leftists never apologize, never give in, and they never tear down their own people in power no matter how many mistakes they make.”
I don’t think he knows many leftists, of any kind. Maybe it is selection bias, but the liberals/progressives/etc I know argue back and forth about this person and that person running for office or writing an article.
Or is it that projection I hear so much about?
Armored Goldfish, don’t the right criticize Obama for “apologizing” for America?
Of course, the stated action was taken out of context, et, etc,. But for the freepers to say leftists don’t apologize, the Obama is Right Wing??????
Not to mention how the Dems have caved in Congresss.
