Abhorrent

The father of Chris Stevens, our murdered ambassador to Libya, has spoken out about how a certain lying, shameless, pandering candidate is using his son’s death. He doesn’t name names but we know who he’s talking about:

“It would really be abhorrent to make this into a campaign issue,” Jan Stevens, 77, said in a telephone interview from his home in Loomis, California, as he prepares for a memorial service for his son next week.

Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee, has criticized President Barack Obama for not providing adequate security in Libya, saying the administration has left the country exposed to a deadly terrorist attack.

The ambassador’s father, a lawyer, said politicians should await the findings of a formal investigation before making accusations or judgments.

“The security matters are being adequately investigated,” Stevens said. “We don’t pretend to be experts in security. It has to be objectively examined. That’s where it belongs. It does not belong in the campaign arena.” Stevens said he has been getting briefings from the State Department on the progress of the investigation.

Strong words coupled with impeccable logic. They will probably fall on deaf ears since appeals to common courtesy and human decency are lost on Mitt’s minions.

Romney did, however, back off on peddling another Libya murder victim related story a few days ago:

Mitt Romney will stop mentioning a former Navy SEAL killed in the attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Libya last month in his campaign speeches, according to aides, after the man’s mother said the GOP presidential candidate should stop invoking her son’s name.

“I don’t trust Romney. He shouldn’t make my son’s death part of his political agenda,” Barbara Doherty said in a statement broadcast Wednesday on WHDH-TV in Boston. “It’s wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama.”

Did the Romneyites have a sudden outbreak of conscience? Nah, it didn’t poll well to have a dead hero’s mama barracking you.

Will the Doherty episode set a precedent in the Stevens case? Not bloody likely. This whole preposterous meme is part of their attack on the Fantasy Obama. You know, the limp-wristed, hippie chickenshit nonsense. The MSM has decreed the Romney-Ryan Libya “cover-up” line is “connected” to a larger picture about “character and credibility,” blah, blah, blah, blather, blather, blather…

Back to the word abhorrent. I love it. It’s a very powerful word that was used in a considerably sillier context by the President of the LDS church that I stumbled upon via Wonkette:

LDS President Harold B. Lee: I was shocked to have you raise the
question about ‘oral lovemaking in the genital area among married
couples.’ Heaven forbid any such degrading activities which would be
abhorrent in the sight of the Lord. For any Latter-day Saint, and
particularly those who have been taught in the sacred ordinances of the
temple, to engage in any kind of perversions of this sacred God-given
gift of procreation, would be sure to bring down the condemnation of the
Lord whom we would offend were we to engage in any such practice

There’s already a type of LDSer called a .Jack Mormon. They’re kind of the LDS version of cafeteria Catholics only whiter; much whiter. This statement involves a sub-sub-category: Jack-off Mormons…

Hey, LDS President Mr. Lee – if it isn’t right, why does it feel so good…?
Stepping on a Lego is unnatural. Oral pleasuring…is utterly natural.
If you are against a mutually desired bout of it, you must not have experienced it or you did it WRONG.
Get your Mormunderoos out of a bunch, you curmudgeon.

Can’t blame it all on Romney. The same machine running Romney and friends is the same machine that both used military dead for the Bush II elections (including covering up that one of their touted names had been shot by “friendly fire” and most probably intentionally), otherwise suppressed pictures of the coffins of war dead, and outed secret operatives when the whim hit.

I was surprised Mali was 90% Muslim – that could make for an inttreseing election dynamic for himHaving lived/traveled in this part of Africa, I had three thoughts. First, tribalism trumps religion, bigtime. One could make the reasonable argument that tribalism and Islam are linked. But at the end of the day it comes down to implied patronage due to tribal affinity.Second, the Islam of this part of Africa is not very strident. I can’t think of another region where Islam is more culture and casual. They have their own breweries in Bamako.Third, compared to what the French think, support from Utah is inconsequential. France continues to exert self-serving control over most of African members of the Francophonie. For most French speaking Africans, France remains a Leopold-esque parasite on the continent.

Diana, From your comment I can only aussme you are as ignorant and bigoted as Al Sharpton. I am a Mormon. All of my family for generations have been Mormons. I literally know thousands of Mormons. Every Mormon I have ever known believes Jesus is the Son of God and is deity. We worship him and pray in his name. We perform all ordinances in his name. We believe he is the creator of the universe and that all power in the universe is derived from him. We know that man can only be saved through his grace and infinite sacrifice. I am sick of people trying to tell me what I believe and misrepresenting my religion. I am exhausted from having my faith maligned daily in the press from all sides without any repercussions. I’d also like to see some reciprocity from the Christian Right when it comes to Mormonism. There is no voting block more firmly behind the Christian Right agenda than the Mormons, but I guess a Mormon can’t count on that support in return.
