There are a lot of things I find mystifying about the TFG cult, but today it’s how completely empty the GOP is. They are a show about nothing.
I’m of course referring to a plot line on Seinfeld where Jerry and George get a chance to pitch their idea for a TV show:
Think about it. The 2020 GOP platform was…nothing:
WHEREAS, The RNC enthusiastically supports President Trump and continues to reject the policy positions of the Obama-Biden Administration, as well as those espoused by the Democratic National Committee today; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Republican Party has and will continue to enthusiastically support then President’s America-first agenda;
RESOLVED, That the 2020 Republican National Convention will adjourn without adopting a new platform until the 2024 Republican National Convention;
Their response to inflation is to crater the economy because their economic philosophy is based on…nothing:
STUART VARNEY: “Congressman, are you prepared for a government shutdown in order to cut spending?”
REP. BYRON DONALDS (R-FL): “I’m prepared for a government shutdown in order to get our country back on track.” pic.twitter.com/VDl5TNgEO9

And it’s not just a neutral nothing, either. It’s a deliberately pernicious nothing meant to destroy.
Here’s Kevin McCarthy on what the GOP will do if they take the House:
“You can’t just continue down the path to keep spending and adding to the debt,” the California Republican told Punchbowl News in a recent interview. “And if people want to make a debt ceiling [for a longer period of time], just like anything else, there comes a point in time where, okay, we’ll provide you more money, but you got to change your current behavior.”
“We’re not just going to keep lifting your credit card limit, right,” he added. “And we should seriously sit together and [figure out] where can we eliminate some waste? Where can we make the economy grow stronger?”
Pressed on whether changes to the entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security were part of the debt ceiling discussions, McCarthy said he would not “predetermine” anything.
If you won’t stop treating LBGTQ people of any age with respect, we’ll shut down your school, or hospital, or business and leave you with…nothing:
Republicans just introduced a federal Don’t Say Gay bill, and it’s much worse than the Florida version.
It’d defund any school, hospital, or institution that exposes minors to any LGBTQ+ materials — or even LGTBQ+ staff.
This is on the ballot.

And the GOP isn’t content with destroying things here at home—democratic governments around the world get nothing, too:
GOP leader Kevin McCarthy tells Punchbowl that new Ukraine aid will have a more difficult road in a Republican House.

It’s straight up nihilism meant to provoke despair. It’s all the GOP has.
This seems fitting:

When they threaten a default, Biden and the Dems need to say: Fine. And declare the United States officially supports an international debt Jubilee, and direct our representatives on the IMF and World Bank to make it happen.
We can finally take out the big banks in the process.
