So President Biden will give his State of the Union address tonight. I don’t think there are going to be any surprises tonight as it seems that ceasefire and hostage return talks related to the Israel/Hamas war are not going well, and the administration has been regularly messaging on immigration, the economy, etc.

One interesting thing is that Biden is going to talk about Project 2025, the extremist right-wing plan to take over staffing the Executive Branch, thus bypassing Congress and SCOTUS going forward. We should start to see some of the related social media materials beginning this afternoon. I think this is a great idea because not enough Americans know what the Republican extremists want to do.

I have to admit I laughed when I learned who would be giving the Republican response, because I was sure I had never heard of her:  Senator Katie Britt of Alabama. I read about her a little and my new response is:  meh. No matter how much the Washington Post story about her tries to soften her wingnut edges, she’s just a run of the mill MAGA cog in the wheel. I guess she was picked because she’s new, youngish, a woman, and can be trusted not to embarrass the GOP.

As for the rest of the GOP who will be in the House chamber, I think we all expect the same bullshit that they’ve been pulling for years now. These are fundamentally unserious people who will be jockeying for the biggest segment on FOX after the SOTU is over.

One of the best things that happened to Biden is the heightened talk about how he’s old and frail and unable to think. You may remember that all of this was an issue in 2023, too, and that SOTU got great reviews. The feeble, failing-minded old guy got his point across:
