Trump’s Babylon And On Press Conference

Babbling moron babbles.

Trump held a press conference yesterday. It was insane.

Because of course it was. It was a Trump event. I won’t just write this off as “oh it’s just Trump being Trump” like so many in DC punditry do, as that makes him okay. He is not okay. He is a habitual, world-champion-level liar, has dangerous ideas, and is likely the stupidest person ever to occupy the White House.

One thing that Biden’s debate debacle overshadowed was Trump’s ability to string together coherent thoughts, never his strong point, has markedly declined in 2016. In this press conference, it was there for all to see.

Trump seemed to confuse Tim Walz with former governor of Virginia Ralph Northam. “I don’t think it’s a big factor anymore, really,” Trump said regarding abortion as a campaign issue. He said he wasn’t campaiging because he is “leading by a lot.”

Trump jumped around from subject to subject, a sign of cognitive decline, according to experts. He did manage to avoid talking about sharks, boats, or Hannibel Lector.

He did declare that his January 6 speech, the one that led to a coup attempt, had a bigger crowd than Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have a Dream speech. There is no sugar-coating this, that is incredibly delusional. It is also, to say the least, not the best way to win over Black voters.

Speaking of Jan. 6, Trump claimed there was a peaceful transfer of power and “nobody died.” This is curious because five police officers died and a Trump supporter was shot by police. This Trump supporter was Ashli Babbitt, who Trump has spoken about quite often since she was killed.

Getting back to abortion, Trump provided Democrats with more attack fodder where he seemed to promote banning mifepristone. It is not clear if Trump knew what he was actually talking about here:

“Sure, you could, you could do things that will be, would, would supplement,” the GOP presidential nominee said. “Absolutely. … But you have to be able to have a vote, and all I want to do is give everybody a vote.” (Trump has defended his appointments of Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade by saying that the decision allowed states and voters to weigh in on the issue.)

The press conference went on and on, with Trump continuing to give rambling answers that were nothing more than a constant stream of lies. MSNBC and CNN gave up and just cut away, returning to the studio. I think anyone watching it appreciated this, as it was truly a relief.

But one more thing, before I end. If you watched that trainwreck yesterday, you may have picked up the fact that Trump thinks “asylum” for immigrants means they are deeply mentally ill. Not that they are seeking political asylum. How can anyone vote for someone that dumb?

The last word goes to Lawrence O’Donnell. I did not cover anything about how the media slacked on fact-checking Trump’s stream of lies, nor have raised any concerns about Trump’s behavior in relation to his age, but Mr. O’Donnell does a fantastic job of taking them to task – a must-watch.
