If it’s Tuesday, it must be the eighteenth installment in the recurring series inspired by the 1991 Duke-Edwards Gret Stet governor’s race. It was the most intense electoral experience of my life; formative too, it gave me an intense dislike of all forms of extremism.
A reminder of the unofficial slogan of the race from hell:

In 2024, we’re flipping that on its head and voting AGAINST the crook. It’s even more important.
The latest reason to vote against the crook is his propensity to incite and encourage violence. It’s even worse because the Insult Comedian never participates in the violence encouraged by his loose tongue. Talking about violence seems to turn him on as much as seeing his name in the headlines or hearing it on cable news. It’s one reason for his attraction to Laura Loomer. She, too, is a coward who gets a kick out of whipping people into a frenzy.
Former President* Pennywise has been inciting violence since his first presidential campaign. Here are just a few examples:
- He’s encouraged cops to rough up suspects.
- He falsely promised to pay the legal bills of supporters who kick ass.
- Most importantly, he incited a riot on January 6, 2021 and plans to pardon the Dipshit Insurrectionists.
I could go on and on but who wants to read a 5K word post?
The incitement speech has taken an even more sinister turn since the apparent assassination attempt. Trump is incapable of simply expressing his gratitude to the Secret Service for a job well done, he has to demonize his opponents and blame it on them:
“I really believe that the rhetoric from the Democrats … is making the bullets fly. And it’s very dangerous. Dangerous for them. It’s dangerous for both sides.”
This from the man who has refused to criticize bomb threats in the beleaguered burg of Springfield, Ohio. The most dangerous thing in America is Donald Trump’s mouth.
Speaking of Ohio, JD Vance has chimed in on the latest incident:
“I know it’s popular on a lot of corners of the left to say that we have a both sides problem. And I’m not going to say we’re always perfect. I’m not going to say that conservatives always get things exactly right. But you know, the big difference between conservatives and liberals is that we have — no one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last couple of months, and two people now have tried to kill Donald Trump in the last couple of months.”
It’s a nut with an assault rifle. It’s not a liberal plot, you fucking donut.
The latest wannabe assassin seems to be a disenchanted Trumper with right-wing proclivities. It’s not coincidental that it happened in Florida. It’s an open carry state in which it’s legal to walk around with an assault rifle. GOPers should try doing something about guns instead of blaming Democrats for violence that’s been encouraged and incited by their cult leader. We know that won’t happen because they’ve fetishized guns and turned them into religious objects. The malakatude, it burns.
For Trumpers who think these incidents will help their candidate win, the failed assassination attempts on Gerald Ford should be a cautionary tale. Ford won the Republican nomination by the skin of his teeth then lost a close race in the 1976 general election.
I’m not the only one with the Ford assassination attempts on their mind. So does my countryman Tom Nichols who had this to say about Trump’s reaction to the latest nut with a gun story:
“Trump is blaming two possible attempts to kill him on pretty much anyone who isn’t an open partisan on his side, and that includes Biden, Harris, me, and millions of other Americans,” @RadioFreeTom writes in The Atlantic Daily: https://t.co/tbNzYAywES

Gerald Ford soothed the nation after these incidents. Former President* Pennywise has used them to inflame the nation as well as to make money off of it. Remember this image?

I wrote a post about that scam called The Grifting Never Stops. The same is true of the incitement speech. It never stops. Every time the Insult Comedian opens his mouth, he pours gasoline on the fire hoping to see an explosion. Who does that? The 45th president* of the United States, that’s who.
in 1968, Robert Kennedy said that, “Richard Nixon represents the dark side of the American spirit.”
Nixon was a piker compared to Donald Trump. Tricky Dick dabbled in incitement speech but never went as far as the Kaiser of Chaos. I wasn’t old enough to vote against that crook, but I can vote against Donald Trump.
Repeat after me: The most dangerous thing in America is Donald Trump’s mouth. Vote against the crook, it’s important.
The last word goes to Mott The Hoople:

Right wingers love to say that nobody in the Jan. 6 insurrection has been charged with insurrection. That somehow, the high-spirited folks who stormed the Capitol were zealous tourists or something, not trying to overthrow the government of the United States by force.
You know what Mr. Routh has been charged with? Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession and receipt of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. He has not been charged with attempted assassination. Curious, no? In the interest of accurate reporting, the media should probably stop calling this an attempted assassination.
Agreed. I struggled with what to call it so I went with apparent attempt.
“It’s an open carry state in which it’s legal to walk around with an assault rifle.” So, as has already been commented on, what law has he broken (besides felon in possession – who knew Florida had any gun laws to violate)?
