I Was So Wrong

I predicted a comfortable win for VP Harris—the states Biden won, plus North Carolina—and I was wrong. I predicted a 50/50 Senate with Tim Walz as the tiebreaker and that is gone, too. And I thought that the Dems would take the House, and I guess that still might happen—not that TFG is going to abide by the Constitution.

The weird thing is that we know that women turned out, at least for early voting. And maybe Hispanic voters were the tipping point for TFG—although you really can’t put too much stock in election day exit polling?

The campaign had life and joy and energy and connected with people which is why this all seems so surreal this morning. I was wrong about that actually turning into votes.

But the thing that really hurts is what I was right about. I have been skeptical for a long time that a woman could ever be elected president. At the moment I seem to be right and I can’t tell you how ardently I wish I were so wrong about that.

It looks like most of the electorate shifted right and wants to embrace hate, division, and ugliness. i can’t understand that at this moment.

I can understand that this is an inflection point in our history and things are likely to become worse in the very near future. Please make sure you have necessities on hand, including a supply of any medications you need to survive.

And as you are able, after you have rested and vented and taken care of yourself and your loved ones, reach out to those who need help. Vulnerable people are going to need food, shelter, medical care, legal help, etc. for the foreseeable future.

This really sucks—again. Take care of yourselves.

  1. Had my cry, but I feel another coming along. Today is for crying, tomorrow is for resisting.

  2. A long time ago, I wrote a post called the “Fuck You” America, and it seems to be more apropos today than ever…. I just wanted human decency, empathy and a sense that we could get along. What I got was a reminder that we live in a “I gotta get mine ‘fore you get yours” nation that tells the “other side” … well… Fuck you.

    1. i read your post today—thanks for writing it. and it’s still true. at the online political space where i hang out we’ve been calling it “i got minez” for years.
i don’t know how to fight people who love misery.
