Waiting In Vain

The world is an ugly place right now; make that uglier than usual. This week’s tune is a minor antidote to your angst and agita. It’s one of the loveliest songs Bob Marley ever wrote.

Bob Marley wrote Waiting In Vain for the Wailers 1977 album Exodus. It was a hit in the UK, but not the US. There’s no accounting for taste but in this case the Brits had it and us Yanks didn’t. Much like the contrast between Keir Starmer and the Insult Comedian.

We begin with Bob Marley & The Wailers:

Annie Lennox. Say no more.

I’d never heard this live version by Chrissie Hynde until researching this post.

Gilberto Gil takes the Marley classic on a trip to Brazil:

Finally, Jody Watley with a full-blown promo video:

That’s it for this week. Let’s drink to the end of Carnival and the beginning of Lent. I don’t observe it, but a bit of self-sacrifice is important in an increasingly selfish world. It’s what Bob, Mick, and Peter would want. Never argue with them.
