Wang Dang Doodle

We live in a nonsensical time thanks to MAGA madness. I thought a song with a nonsensical title was in order. Wang Dang Doodle *does* mean something: to have a good time, especially during tough times. Our time qualifies with unqualified idiots running the federal government. Oy, just oy.

Willie Dixon wrote Wang Dang Doodle in 1960 for Chester Burnett DBA Howlin’ Wolf. Wolf recorded it the next year. That’s where we begin.

The songwriter cut his song at around the same time as Wolf, but it sat on the proverbial shelf until 1995.

Koko Taylor first recorded the Dixon classic in 1966. It became a staple of her live performances until her death in 2009. Pitch it, Koko.

Mac Rebennack DBA Dr John. Say no more.

The Brits love the blues. Savoy Brown made their living pitching Wang Dang Doodle all night long.

Next up, the marvelous New Orleans singer, Marva Wright.

Finally, a 21st Century version from Sam Moore, Keb Mo, and Angie Stone:

What’s the Friday Cocktail Hour without an instrumental version of the week’s tune? This time, FCH regulars Booker T & The MGs.

That’s it for this week. I’m on the road, so let’s drink to an uneventful travel day. It’s what Bogie, Betty, and Frank would want. Never argue with them.
