Sara Smile

The first time I heard Sara Smile, I thought it was by Todd Rundgren. Not a bad guess: Hall & Oates are also from Philly and they worked with Todd. All of that made me smile then and now.

Daryl Hall and John Oates wrote Sara Smile in 1975 for their eponymous fourth studio album. It was their breakthrough hit.

We begin with the songwriters:

Lenny Williams is best known for his stint as Tower of Power’s lead singer. He recorded this chill cover of this week’s tune in 1994. I like it enough to overlook the misspelled title.

Joan Osborne. Say no more.

Rumor has it that Rumer recorded the Hall & Oates classic in 2012:

Finally. let’s talk about the birds and the bees or is that The Bird and The Bee?

That’s it for this week. Let’s drink to Sara and her smile wherever they may be. It’s what Bogie, Betty, and Frank would want. Never argue with them.
