No, You Don’t Gotta Hand It To Trump

Donald Trump is not well-liked at the moment. A lot of angry people are showing up at townhalls run by Republicans, despite not being well-covered, people are protesting his nonsense, and polling isn’t definitely not on his side. He is also, you know, trying to bring down American democracy and turn America into a right-wing Christian white nationalist authoritarian state.

But my goodness, is there ever an effort with some in the mainstream media to make the Semi-Sentient Orange Carrot into a respectable president. I have three examples of this.

The first one is from July 23, when Mike Allen from Donald Trump Excuse Engine Axios dropped this little morsel on the world:

President Trump, in terms of raw accomplishments, crushed his first six months in historic ways.Yet poll after poll suggests most Americans aren't impressed. In fact, they seem tired of all the winning.

It opens with this, which is one helluva journey:

President Trump, in terms of raw accomplishments, crushed his first six months in historic ways. Massive tax cuts. Record-low border crossings. Surging tariff revenue. Stunning air strikes in Iran. Modest inflation. Yet poll after poll suggests most Americans aren’t impressed. In fact, they seem tired of all the winning.

Why it matters: Trump appears to be losing by winning. The more he does (including issues beyond his legislative wins), the more the general public, especially independents, shrug — or recoil.

This paradox is unfolding in what could be the very best chapter of his presidency, before tariffs push prices higher or midterms pose risks to his GOP majorities. And it’s being aggravated by the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, which has exposed rare cracks in Trump’s decade-old MAGA movement.

So, I think that Allen is saying that he doesn’t get why given all of the WINNING done by Trump, which includes things that people don’t like, such as tax cuts for the rich, ICE becoming our Very Own Gestapo, and tariff, that people don’t love him, which is “losing by winning.” As he keeps doing unpopular things, get this…people like him LESS! I know, hard to believe, right? And this is going on during what Allen calls “the very best chapter of his presidency,” which is, um, one helluva statement. Oh, but then there’s the whole thing that one of the wins, tariffs, could cause inflation, which is the very thing that Trump seemed to have fooled people during his campaign into thinking he’d address and ohyeahbytheway JEFFREY EPSTEIN.

I mean, I hope that nobody got hurt performing that level of mental gymnastics. Needless to say, Joe Biden got none of this level of benefit of the doubt.

And I will again mention that Trump is trying to bring down American democracy and turn America into a right-wing Christian white nationalist authoritarian state.

The next example is from Harry Enten, CNN’s Data Critter, who has made a name for himself with the Orange Moron.

Enten first endeared himself to Trump with nonsense like this:

here's CNN's Harry Enten gushing this morning that Trump is a "soaring eagle" and saying, "you can't say that he's come in and not tried to deliver on what he at least believes was his promises on the campaign trail and he's doing so in historic fashion" 🤡

That got him plenty of Donnie Love, including a shoutout during an interview where Trump flubbed his name. More recently, he declared Trump to have “the best political instincts of any politician he’s ever seen” and declared the Epstein scandal a “nothingburger.”

However, Enten can be a little confusing because yesterday he said something totally different. So who knows, really. Maybe he got nervous from everyone on social media asking him what the hell was wrong with him.

Maybe he needs a reminder that Trump is trying to bring down American democracy and turn America into a right-wing Christian white nationalist authoritarian state.

Finally, we have good ol’ Joe Scarborough, he of the Hit MSNBC Marriage Comedy Morning Joe. Some might think Trump calling out the troops in DC is a bad thing, a sign of an authoritarian dictatorship flexing its muscle. But not to Joe, who believes that DC is a hellscape and gives Trump credit for having the National Guard take over the city.

Symone Sanders was not having any of it.

Scarborough makes the typical stupid mistake that so many in the mainstream media have been making for the first almost eight months of the Trump presidency, thinking that anything he does could possibly have a good outcome. It’s not about crime; the crime rate in DC has fallen steadily. And yes, I know, tell that to someone who reads about murders in DC, but the thing is, nothing that Trump could do would ever cause the murder rate to fall to zero. Crime will always happen in large cities.

But again, ordering federal agents and the National Guard to DC is not about crime; it’s about flexing authoritarian muscle and intimidating non-white people. The plans to do it in other Democratic-run cities are also not about crime.

Again, Trump is trying to bring down American democracy and turn America into a right-wing Christian white nationalist authoritarian state. You do not, under any circumstances, “gotta hand it to them.”

The last word goes to Nine Inch Nails.

  1. They are only ‘succeeding’ in Chaos, Confusion and Crime. Oh, and trying to bring down American democracy and turn America into a right-wing Christian white nationalist authoritarian state. And those sucking up to him seem to think they won’t go under the Bus, but, they will… they all do eventually. And, he is on The List. I don’t even need to see it to know it.
