On Tuesday, I wrote about the magic words my mother taught me, PLEASE and THANKS. At First Draft we do things a little differently. In a tradition started by my much missed colleague Athenae, we use FUCK YEAH in support of the righteous. Consider this a thank you note to the brave and enterprising citizens of the Twin Cities.
The goal of this exercise in MAGA madness is to establish a new frontier in our political life. As far as the Kaiser of Chaos is concerned, you do not have full citizenship rights unless you voted for him. In a word: Balderdash.
We have something called the First Amendment in this country, which includes the right of citizens to film masked men terrorizing their community. Minnesotans know this and are defying the MAGA goon squad:
Team Trump has taken the hypocritical position that it’s okay for MAGA supporters to carry guns but not for MAGA opponents. This attempt to have it both ways has stirred some opposition among Second Amendment types. It’s about fucking time.
The Insult Comedian claims that Minnesota voted for him three times. It always comes back to voter fraud with this stupid mook. In fact, Minnesota hasn’t voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 1972. That’s intolerable to the fantasists and fascists on Team MAGA. If you’re not with them, you’re not a citizen with rights. Fuck that and fuck them.
I’ve had a longstanding interest in Minnesota politics because of the quality of Gopher state Democrats: Humphrey, Mondale, and Wellstone spring instantly to mind. Hubert Humphrey was Mayor of Minneapolis from 1945-1948, He’d be proud of his people for standing up for freedom in the face of tyranny.
I’m sorry that Minnesotans are bearing so much of the burden of fighting Trumpism. The George Floyd murder is another reason for the MAGA invasion. Stephen Miller hoped for the sort of chaos that happened in 2020. Instead, the chaos is caused by ICE-holes and Border Patrol brown shirts. That’s why I call their dear leader, the Kaiser of Chaos.
Minnesota officials are pressing on with investigations of the murders most foul in Minneapolis. The feds are pretending to investigate the Pretti murder, but they cannot be believed on any subject. Keep on pushing.
It’s cold comfort but the names of Renee Good and Alex Pretti will go down in the annals of American martyrs. I’ve been pondering that fate of Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner, civil rights activists murdered by the Klan in 1964 to uphold white supremacy. Good and Pretti were pro-Democracy activists murdered by a MAGA regime hell bent on restoring white supremacy. Official murder is always worse than unofficial murder. Congratulations, MAGA you’ve topped the Mississippi Burning murders in awfulness. Heckuva job, Trumpy.
Finally, thanks again to the Minnesotans fighting non-violently against MAGA fascism. When the history of this period is written, you will be among the heroes.
