West Virginia is facing a bunch of problems: several communities still don’t have clean drinking water, the Big Beautiful Bill’s cuts to Medicaid forced rural hospitals to close (and WV’s senators did not do anything to get WV its rightful share of the replacement funds), several rural schools have closed since the WVGOP is hellbent on destroying the public education system, and people have lost their ACA subsidies and have seen their premiums in some cases increase by 300%.
Here’s what the state legislature is focused on.
–A bill to ban lab grown meat.
–A bill mandating that anyone found to be undocumented be immediately transferred to federal custody for deportation, due process be damned.
–Changing current law to reduce the time for county election officials to receive absentee ballots, rural and older voters be damned.
–A bill to mandate a specific bible in some public school classrooms, the Establishment Clause be damned.
–A bill mandating that the governor of WV have been born in the state. The current governor was born in New York and grew up in New Jersey.
–A bill hiding the employers of political donors so trumpers can hide from scrutiny.
–A bill freeing private schools from government oversight, as part of a larger attempt to gut the public education system in the state (a post for another time). By the way, the cover photo for this post is from an event earlier this month. These are the people who want to take over our education system.
–Amending the current awful abortion law to include abortion pills.
Can’t wait to see what the next half brings!
I’ll leave you with this wonderful clip. I love Rufus, and what a great cover this is.
