Yesterday, I wrote an overview of MAGA’s corruption. I’m a big picture guy and that was a big picture post. So is this one. I try not to repeat myself, so I was reluctant to do consecutive posts with “MAGA’s” in the title. I’m possessive of my titles and that use of the possessive seemed excessive. I tried alternate titles and this one was the best, so it stays. Am I possessed by possessives? Discuss amongst yourselves.
Is it just me or is anyone else tired of being lectured and trolled about patriotism by the Trumpist personality cult? That, of course, was a rhetorical question: all thinking Americans are tired of everything about MAGA, especially its claims of super patriotism. It’s all bluster and bullshit highlighting the hollow hypocrisy of the MAGA movement.
Remember the third red scare? Steve Scalise is still at it, claiming that normie Democrats as well as DSA-types are commies. He knows it’s a lie but he’s desperate to hold the House so his dear leader can avoid responsibility for shitting the national bed.
Repeat after me: Steve Scalise is so full of shit that his eyes are brown.
That childish moment felt good. It’s nothing compared to Trump’s daily social media tantrums.
The crusade is against fake commies, if you’re nice to Trump, it doesn’t matter if you’re a Stalinist:
“Based on my very good relationship with Kim Jong Un, of North Korea, I am not happy with the fact that the United States has, long ago, agreed to participate in Joint Military Exercises with South Korea. These exercises are not only costly, with much of these costs paid for by the United States of America (as usual!), but send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile, to a Country that, as long as Donald J. Trump has been President, has been unthreatening and respectful. Therefore, and based on the fact that it is too late to cancel, I have instructed Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to substantially reduce the Joint Military Exercises! While somewhat unrelated (?), I recently asked the President of South Korea if they would like to join us in the Denuclearization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and they said, “No thanks!” Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP”
Another day, another example of Trumpist patrimonialism. Everything is personal to this POTUS. The continued misrule of the tiny tyrant is okay as long as he’s “unthreatening and respectful” to the Kaiser of Chaos. Those are two words that will never be applied to Trump: His political style is based on threats and disrespect.
Trump not only “loves” the diminutive dictator, he hates South Korea for its fidelity to democratic principles since 1987. Koreans seem to like democracy as much as kimchi, which also requires time and patience. Patience is not a word in the Insult Comedian’s shrinking vocabulary.
This latest outburst is a distraction from Trump’s calamitous war with Iran. He’s looking for someone to blame and landed on South Korea for now. His attention span is short, so he’ll move on to another target but it’s all a part of Trumpist buck passing.
It’s never Donald’s fault. It’s hard being perfect. #sarcasm
In two sentences Tom Nichols nailed the skewed reasoning behind Trump’s lashing out at an allied nation:
The Chinese and the Russians and the North Koreans are certain to draw the appropriate lessons from this deranged policy. They have been shown, yet again, that when Trump fails, he hurts those he feels safe hurting
Another example of MAGA’s performative patriotism are comments made by Trump and Hegseth over the USS Lincoln scandal:
The USS Abraham Lincoln, an aircraft carrier with more than 5,000 sailors and marines onboard, has been at sea for nearly nine months, having begun its deployment in November. There have been reports of multiple suicide attempts including jumping overboard.
When Trump was asked on Friday whether naval families were worried about conditions onboard, he replied: “No, they’re not.” He said that the Lincoln’s deployment, now in its ninth month, was “not nearly long enough.”
Earlier, Hegseth also swatted away families’ concerns, saying that the reality onboard the Lincoln had been “completely misrepresented.”
So, the liars are calling military families liars. I remember when criticizing the troops was a third rail of American politics. It happened too often during the Vietnam War but subsequent anti-war movements have not fallen into that trap.
Speaking of traps, I wish Trump and Hegseth would keep their big mouths shut. The Insult Comedian called the reports of conditions on the Lincoln: “Fake.”
Everything he doesn’t like is fake.
Spinning the Lincoln mess should have been a no-brainer for Team Trump. They could have responded by saying something like: “Help is on the way. The USS Lincoln will be on its way home soon.”
Instead, they attack worried spouses and parents. It’s yet another low point in the annals of Trumpism.
Repeat after me: The MAGA hypocrisy, it burns.
The last word goes to Little Steven followed by Jackson Browne.
