NOLA hospital mercy killings?

From Scout:

It appears a warrant has been issued in relation to deaths at a New Orleans hospital in the days of Katrina. From WWL….

Eyewitness News has learned the Department of Justice could be closer to making an arrest into the deaths of dozens of patients who died at Memorial Hospital during and after Hurricane Katrina.

Attorney General Charles Foti will call a press conference for Tuesday.

Officials with the Justice Department have been tight-lipped about the investigation. They would not admit when the arrests would come, but sources told Eyewitness News that at least one arrest warrant was signed Monday evening.

Shortly after Katrina, the Attorney General issued subpoenas for 73 employees who were in the hospital during and after the storm. The subpoenas came after continuing rumors of mercy killings; workers euthanizing patients they thought would not make it and were suffering.

In all, 45 bodies were taken from Memorial Hospital after the storm.

UPDATE: 3 arrested. From WWL

Sources have told Eyewitness News that a doctor and two nurses from Memorial Medical Center were arrested and charged with principal to second-degree murder Monday night in connection with the deaths of dozens of patients in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Dr. Anna Pou and Nurses Cheri Landry and Laura Budo were booked at the Orleans Parish Prison last night and then later released by a judge on their own recognizance.

A press conference is scheduled for later today.
