Purity Balls: Even Born-Again Christians Think They Suck

Via Feministing, this incredibly scary site and its featured articles’ surprisingly unscary comments:

WHERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN???
VIRGINITY IS A TWO WAY STREET!!!!

Do they have a ball with their dads? or their moms?

Has anyone talked the THEM about their actions, their words, their dress, their using girls to get their sexual appetites met? Has anyone talked to them about the exploitation of women in pornography or phone sex?

I bet not.

And no, I would not have my daughters pledge their virginity to their FATHER, but to their GOD.

I am a born-again believer, but this is just sick.

Debra

And, honestly. Can we please have a Men’s Chastity Movement? Can we please have a whole industry devoted to teaching men to keep it in their pants instead of this incredibly regressive “it’s the woman’s duty to guard her virtue against men who are wired to assail it” crap where men aren’t responsible for where they stick their dicks.

I’ve never seen how that shit is not incredibly insulting to men, with its implicit assumption that you’re all animals who can’t control your actions. I get that sometimes it’s an excuse for bad behavior, “eh, she just smoked the hog, I wasn’t myself” kind of thing, but come the fuck on. So to speak. Treating you like children who are slaves to your urges does neither sex any favors.

So if we’re going to make a big deal out of virginity, can we have some parity, please?

A.

It makes relations between the sexes an adversarial competition, like a state of perpetual siege.

  2. Sandia Blanca says:

That would be purity parity, right?

  3. Paida says:

Yeah when my 5 year old son is about to go through puberty I am going to put him in a little tux, have him walk down an aisle w/ me and pledge to hold onto his virginity until marriage.
Then we will slow dance the night away to the soothing sounds of Michael Bolton.
AHH isn’t that sick? It is EXACTLY what the fathers are doing w/ their girls. I would suggest the Dateline “To Catch a Predator” hang out outside of some of the houses of the men who take their daughters to these dances- they might be surprised what they can find out.

Don’t they know that by locking their daughters away in the protective arms of their daddies (as I remember from my wife’s stint as a lawyer in child protective custody cases, most of the sex abuse cases involved fathers, step-fathers, and boyfriends of the mother) they’re driving the boy children into each others’ arms? Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

see, that would be making boys teh gay, which the wingnuts find even scarier than teenage sex.
Boys will be boys and all that
But girls, they’re put here to subjugate.

  6. pansypoo says:

but but but boys are made of snakes and snails and puppy dog tails. we can’t expect them to be civilzed. just ramp up the bhurka movement.
the talibornagains will save amerika’s purity!

    Oedipus and Electra?

I stared and stared at the title of this for a full minute before I realized that “purity balls” has something to do with dancing.

eh, no. The fundie right culture is awash with rather blasphemous concepts and practices of semi-divinity through being saved and Daddy as God in the authoritarian structure of their family and church communities. Not that they would ever admit that to themselves.
    Just a teensy-weensy bit arrogant.

  10. WitchWay11 says:

This is not the first time I’ve heard of this, and it is not the first time that, upon hearing about it, I’ve said “What the FUCK?” You’re totally right on about the lack of “purity parity”. It’s really insulting and just plan dumb not to expect boys to be able to exercise control just as much as girls.
I mean, wow, I thought I had daddy/men issues. I can only imagine if the time I slow-danced with my dad at my sixth grade graudation party was laden with all of this purity nonsense. I didn’t even have a traditional Sweet Sixteen party. Sheesh.
    Oh, right, and – WTF?

    They’re called Star Trek conventions.
Oh, wait, I confused chastity and virginity again – my bad.

Ah, non, mon ami. The cruising is very, very good at Star Trek conventions… It’s probably pretty good at megachurches, too.

  13. mds says:

Daddy as God in the authoritarian structure of their family and church communities.
Indeed. Women are the property of their fathers, then of their husbands. This is what these people are trying to go back to, taking everyone else along for the ride.
The cruising is very, very good at Star Trek conventions…
    Live long and prosper, indeed.
