‘Devoid of charm, offensive and a wazzock’

That’s theDaily Fucking Mail. I don’t know what a wazzock is, but I don’t think it’s something Mitt wants to be:

Speaking anonymously behind the scenes, officials were even more scathing in their verdicts, describing Mr Romney’s second day in London as a ‘total car crash’ and saying he was ‘worse than Sarah Palin’.

Another official who met with the former Governor of Massachusetts said he was ‘apparently devoid of charm, warmth, humour or sincerity’.

What a crackup. This is why even Republicans think Mitt is Teh Suxxorz. Bush, for all the horrible things you could (and I did) say about him, could be a very warm and gregarious person and generally seemed to charm those around him. Romney just bumbles around banging into stuff and saying stupid, unnecessary things, like, when you are in London and the Olympics are two days away and someone asks you what you think, you say, hey, I’m cheering for Team USA and I wish all the athletes the best and blah blah blah. You don’t need to actually give an answer that’s about anything. I swear I don’t know how on earth this guy got elected to anything.

  1. Wazzock. A stupid or annoying person in polite circles. An idiot or buffoon in not so polite ones.

  2. Love the W word, one of my longtime favorite Britisms. I also like narked. Mitt should be narked that even Boris Johnson is mocking him. The London Mayor also has gaffe syndrome but Mitt Offshore is worse.
Mitt has only won *one* general election. He is easily the worst campaigner in my lifetime.

  3. I listened to the full clip of Romney talking about whether or not he was excited to have a horse competing in the Olympics. He appeared to not even know the name of the rider of his wife’s horse.
This is a person who presumably has been in close contact with his wife during training and competitions, especially in the months leading up to the Olympics. That’d be like not knowing the name of your kid’s Little League team captain.
I mean, FFS. He could have said something like “I’m not intensely involved with my wife’s sport, but I couldn’t be prouder of Ann and [insert Rafalca’s rider here]. They did all of the work and deserve all of the credit.” But his answer reeked of flop sweat:Wha? Horses? Shit, I don’t know anything about those! I won’t even be there when they compete! What’s a horse, anyway!?

  4. Romney is aterrible politician. The man has no blarney skills at all. Boris Johnson might be a gaffe machine but I get the impression that he’s your uncle who says outrageous things with a smile and you like him for it. Romney’s gaffes just make you cringe.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he was intended to be a sacrificial candidatea la Bob Dole all along, just to get him out of the way for 2016.

  5. from “The Independent” via “the Guardian”:
“Carl Lewis on Mitt Romney: ‘Some Americans shouldn’t leave the country'”

  6. As far as I can tell, Mitt has no handlers. This fits with his CEO persona; he needs only yes-men and would immediately fire anyone who told him bad news (like, I don’t know, you’re making an ass of yourself).
I’m sure he thinks he’s doing just fine.

  7. The schadenfreude would be enjoyable even without the hideous “I’m an entitled Anglo-Saxon just like all of you, not some swarthy foreigner” preamble but WITH that, it’s sublime.

  8. CBSNews reporting that the British papers are Blastihng Romney for a day of gaffes

There is also a video of him discussing a hush-hush meeting with MI6. Local news link athttp://www.heartlandconnection.com/news/ndnvideo?id=23755189 should be good for a little bit. It says CBS News but I can’t find a direct link.
Especially interesting in the later, he talks about not discussing foreign policy while on foreign soil and in another place, without a disclaimer for being on foreign soil, says that as a candidate he leaves discussion of foreign policy to the prez.
