Earl Conlon, a Georgia trucker who is handling logistics for the protest, told U.S. News tractor-trailer drivers will circle the beltway “three lanes deep” as he rides with other participants to Congress to seek the arrest of congressmen for allegedly disregarding the Constitution. “We want these people arrested, and we’re coming in with the grand jury to do it,” he said. “We are going to ask the law enforcement to uphold their constitutional oath and make these arrests. If they refuse to do it, by the power of the people of the United States and the people’s grand jury, they don’t want to do it, we will. … We the people will find a way.”

During a federal shutdown, on a Friday before a 3 day (Mon Fed holiday) weekend, during a bit Nor’Easter rainstorm…oh yeah, SO many folks are going to notice.
How many of those trucks were carrying porta-potties for the TeaTard/Keyboard Kommandos rally?
Thanks Tommy, I was disappointed that the news didn’t seem to be reporting anything about this (although the news not reporting a juvenile stunt is really quite a snub – saying it was so juvenile that they weren’t even bothering with it)
” the leftard fantasy of arresting congressmen” – uh, when has the left made plans to abduct congressmen? Me thinks the TeaBaggers tend to project too much. Like a bunch of kids. You hit your playmate and then complain to the adult that they hit you.
Not to mention that if the police step in, the Freepers were already yelling Brown Shirted Thugs – as if the police didn’t have a clear responsibility to keep traffic moving (although having been in DC for 2 weeks, I freely defer to MichealF’s earlier post that traffic is congested in DC anyway).
Had missed taking up 3 lanes of 495. Seems like that would take a whole lot of trucks to fill up that space. Looking up the length limits for trucks (such as at http://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight/publications/size_regs_final_rpt/index.htm#tts it appears that 80 feet would be a reasonable initial guess for truck length plus space between trucks, assuming that none of the trucks are dual trailer, overlength, etc.) Or roughly 200 trucks per mile to get 3 abreast.= 12,800 for 64 miles.
Wonder if the handful that actually showed up and got caught, wonder if that might be a problem with keeping their commercial driver’s license and necessary permits for hauling interstate?

Adrastos – could it be because for the Tea Baggers and Stand Your Ground folks, the picture has the physiologic effects as hard-core porn? 😉
If I remember right, it is either this or a very similar picture where the guy didn’t really want to take the picture but his girlfriend wanted him to pose in such a pose with the gun equipment for props.
MapleStreet: IIRC, the guy in that photo is rather liberal, and the pose was intended to be a sarcastic jibe on ‘winger warmonger fantasies.
Facebook friend of mine posted a picture of the so-called “convoy” showing a ton of trucks headed down the highway, hated to tell him it was a hoax:

SB – the first picture is funny enough in that the claim for a convoy doesn’t really seem to have a higher density of trucks than normal traffic.
But the second picture is priceless. And it is so believable that these folks in the 2nd picture, if they are repubs, would decide to jump on the highway and cause gridlock, exercising their “rights” to free passage.
