Since Athenae’s out, I’m usurping the Question Thread.
It’s getting unfortunately cold outside for those of us incivilized latitudes (lookin’ at you, Adrastos). What do you do for entertainment when it’s too cold to just go drink a beer on the porch in a t-shirt?
I’ve hauled out the knitting and bought a 1000-piece puzzle; there will also be much roasting of poultry and making of soup. If it deigns to snow this year, I’ll haul out the cross-country skis, but the weather has been somewhat fickle in that regard the past few years.
Am trying to learn how to bake decent bread. Recent efforts have been edible but not really acceptable. Am much better when it comes to gumbo and jambalaya.
Am also looking to do some in home projects — have tools and materials to fix a spot on the floor that needs patching, and if I get really ambitious — built in shelves throughout the house.
And since like Adrastos I’m in the sweltering, hellish sub-tropics (a balmy 55 degrees today! But cloudy and kind of dreary), anyway, tis the season for a few outdoor projects that I skipped out on during…the sweltering, hellish season: pruning back a tree, setting some bricks and pavers down for a walkway…and if/when it’s sunny, grilling out.
I’ll also be drinking wine, but only on the day names that end with the letter “y.”
drink a beer on my couch in a t-shirt.
Same as I do the rest of the year: go birding.
Read SF and history; write; watch “Harvey,” my Marx Brothers and Rocky & Bullwinkle collections, and PBS; do genealogy; brew up hot buttered rum at least once a week; drink beer on the couch in a flannel shirt.
Here in the Puget sound area the gardening chores are year round. Just now the Sasanqua Camellias are blooming. This is the time of year when I start counting the days till sun turn around. 28 more.
Less boating and more baking is the only real difference.
i can bake.
Who you callin’ uncivilized, newbie?
The same thing I do EVERY night.
Try to take over the world.
Tommy
I sit on the couch in a t-shirt and drink beer and watch football, which I have been unable to do for the past 2 1/2 years because grad school. (Master’s thesis successfully defended Wednesday.)
Everyone in similar circumstances, count yourself lucky. My son’s Scout patrol is getting ready to go do some stream cleaning. It’s 33 outside.
