Dinesh D’Souza indicted for violating U.S. election law

(Reuters) – Dinesh D’Souza, a conservative commentator and best-selling author, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for arranging excessive campaign contributions to a candidate for the U.S. Senate.

According to an indictment made public on Thursday in federal court in Manhattan, D’Souza around August 2012 reimbursed people who he had directed to contribute $20,000 to the candidate’s campaign. The candidate was not named in the indictment.

Attempts to reach D’Souza and a lawyer representing him were unsuccessful.

D’Souza was charged in the indictment with one count of making illegal contributions in the names of others, and one count of causing false statements to be made.

Federal law in 2012 limited primary and general election campaign contributions to $2,500 each, for a total of $5,000, from any individual to any one candidate.

“As we have long said, this Office and the FBI take a zero tolerance approach to corruption of the electoral process,” the U.S. Attorney for Manhattan, Preet Bharara, said in a statement released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Bharara is an Obama appointee.

Born in Mumbai, India, D’Souza, 52, is a former policy adviser to President Ronald Reagan, and has been affiliated with conservative organizations such as the American Enterprise Institute and the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

He also directed a 2012 film critical of President Barack Obama, “2016: Obama’s America,” and has written books including “The End of Racism,” “Life After Death: The Evidence” and “Obama’s America: Unmaking the American Dream.”

D’Souza campaigned in 2012 on behalf of Wendy Long, a lawyer and Republican who sought to unseat Democratic incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand as New York’s junior senator. Long graduated from Dartmouth College in 1982, a year before D’Souza.

Long could not be reached for comment on Thursday.

I’ll say.
Who’s responsible for this horrid partisan witch hunt, anyway?
Those Democrats will stop at nothing to see that money launderingfree speech legal contributions are against the law!
The McCain-Feingold Bill is a bill that was introduced to the United States Senate in 2002 in an attempt to reform campaign financing in the United States. The bill passed after some modifications and was signed into law by then-President George Bush.
Oh. Never mind. Dinesh, don’t tell.

To: ifinnegan

That’s exactly where we’re at in this country . A man can be arrested and indicted for alleged abuses.

Duh. That’s what happens when you break a Federal law. A man can also be arrested and indicted for running Ponzi schemes. And robbing banks. And RICO. And tax evasion. And counterfeiting.

If anyone believes we are anymore a free people, I have some swampland I’d like to sell them.

Oh, puh-leeeze. They mean, “a zero tolerance approach to Republicans.”

I haven’t heard anything about D’Souza since he tried to persuade Nondenominational Christians (his constituency) that hooking up with a nubile young groupie while he was still married should be perfectly acceptable.

That’s how/why D’Souza left his job as President of King’s College.

The ‘young groupie’ was Denise Odie Joseph, who was also married at the time.

McDonnell, Christie, Walker, and other Republicans/conservatives are being targeted for elimination.

Maybe this is why Beck has toned it down, even apologizing on Fox News.

To: virgil

A lot of Hillary Clinton contributors got in the same kind of trouble a few years back, as did a major Biden donor. The practice and prosecutions for it seem to be pretty common. Usually it’s some corporate executive who takes a risk illegally reimbursing his employees. D’Souza, a pretty small fish who acted out of idealism, should have steered clear of the practice.

Thanks for the up-dates, FRiends!

I haven’t seen D’Souza on the talk show circuit lately…this explains a lot!

Iwould just say, IMHO, that meeting one’s spouse’s needs is important, but it works both ways, doesn’t it? and characterizing the younger woman in question as a “nubile young groupie” is perhaps a biased description?

IF this change of relationships was done above-board, as it seems to have been, then it’s none of my business, I will not criticize, and I will keep my opinion to myself, not having personal acquaintance with any of these people, and not making judgement without knowing all the facts.

Nevertheless, I’m sure it’s been difficult for all involved, and I’m sorry for them…I hope their lives go forward, better!

Sure it is. I’m a 47-year-old faithful wife. If my husband finds his soulmate in a 20-something married employee, “nubile young groupie” is the least of the verbiage my highly compensated attorney will offer.

D’Souza, O’Keefe, Hollywood conservative group Abe, and Steyn’s circus trial in DC. Not only did harassment from the IRS not stop, it has grown. This is a purge. These fascists are embarking on destroying opponents like a third world dictatorship. First they will go for all those who have stuck their heads up, those who are ‘famous’, but they will work their way down to the tea party rank and file. Destroying a portion at a time. Senate Adopts New Rules on FilibustersWall Street Journal ^ | 11/21/13 | By Janet Hook And Kristina Peterson

Posted on 11‎/‎21‎/‎2013‎ ‎11‎:‎52‎:‎06‎ ‎AM by SoFloFreeper

A bitterly divided Senate voted Thursday to ease the confirmation process for most presidential nominees, a momentous and potentially risky step that limits the ability of Republicans to block President Barack Obama’s choices for executive-branch and most judicial posts.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) engineered the rules change, over Republican objections, with a complicated parliamentary maneuver that ended up placing new curbs on the use of the filibuster—a move so controversial that it is often called the “nuclear option.”

“The American people believe Congress is broken. The American people believe the Senate is broken…It’s time to change the Senate before this institution becomes obsolete,” Mr. Reid said.

The key vote was 52-48, with all but three Democrats voting for the change and all Republicans opposed. Democratic Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Joe Manchin of West Virginia broke from their party and voted against changing the rules.

Huh? Did I miss something, Rush Limbaugh just said at the beginning of his show that the “Nuclear” threat wasn’t worth discussing because it was just a distraction to take the media focus off Obamacare and that the democrats had no intention of following through, and even if they did it was a long convoluted process.

It appears that not only did they go “Nuclear” they changed the rules in about 15 minutes…

That’s because Rush Limbaugh is a rodeo clown who’s made a fortune telling conservatives what they want to hear, regardless of the truth. He’s no more reliable than Dick Morris or any of those other well-paid “conservative thinkers”.

Rush is entertaining and all, but when you start taking him seriously you become the mark.
